I've been a long-time fan of these blogs, and inspired by your art (and by the groaining of overstuffed shelving), I'm creating this blog to motivate me to get some minis done.

8 years ago I went on a buying spree on eBay, and bought a...few...Necrons. See attached picture.

Here's a list of what you see (I used that freeware list builder to do an inventory):

I do have a question before I get started: Does anyone see any reason to have 72 Warriors? Don't ask me why I bought 6 boxes...I don't know why either.

With so many warriors you can play around with some conversions. Come up with some unique poses or weapons.

Quick update: I create two prototypes using a couple of the older necron 'radiers', but I'm having a heckuva time photographing 'm. I'm not new to this, I've posted a lightbox I've been using for years...maybe these old guys had built-in Disruption Fields? When I can get a decent front/back photo of these two, I'll get them posted.

That is... some necrons!

Do those models proud, make them look amazing!

May I also suggest saving a box of warriors until the new 'crons are released, you may find other uses for them!

Also, welcome to Dakka! We will all do our best to make you feel at home. Grab a seat, sit back and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for the replies folks

Here are the two pics, as promised.

Both were primed with Tamiya Gunmetal Grey.

The one one the left (gun up) was then painted (thin coat) with Boltgun Metal (GW), recessed areas with Tamiya Metallic Grey, a thin coat of FolkArt Sterling Silver (I'd really hoped this had been shinier than it wasn't), and finally dry-brushed with Tamiya Chrome Silver. Green highlights with Vallejo Goblin Green, highlighted with Vallejo Flourescent Green. I was attempting to show the 'glow' from the green, but it didn't come out right I don't think.

Right was a quickie...brushed Tamiya Chrome Silver, then highlighted wtih Vallejo Goblin Green, highlighted with Vallejo Flourescent Green (yeah, I missed a spot...didn't notice it 'til I posted the photo).

I think I need to put another swipe of the Flourescent Green, or add White to make it brighter.

Thoughts on either?

The greens look good but I think you need to add some debth to the base model to really bring them attention.

A use of Badab Black wash or just some well watered down black paint brushed over the models will sink into the recessed areas and help everything.

And with what you have now I cant give any negative about the armys you could make, because your total inventory is alot like mine and heavy necron warriors is the way I go.

Yes, a badab black wash would make them look 100x better.

Agreed on the black drybrush/wash, especially on the recesses. Hmm...if you guys can't see a difference in color in the two, why waste all the effort in layering Plus the Tamiya goes on so smooth...it looks airbrushed.

The color difference I honestly thought was just more light on the right side.

..and fall back to the dust and dirt.

As with all things, life intervenes and time something some else has....

Luckily, GW gave me an inspiration, they openend a local store, with extremely helpful people. Motivated, 'crons are back in motion (more or less).

Here's a shot of current build (no paint, just assembly). The weird Warrior poses (pointing up/down) started off as a gluing accident, but thought it was something different. The one complete Heavy Destroyer was an idea from another site, taking two Destroyer gauss and combining to form a plastic heavy gauss. Not perfect, but it's a start.

I'm having a problem with the Pariahs (Lychguard), Heavy Destroyers and Monolith. You can see in the pic where...the blade for the Pariahs, the metal heavy gauss for the destroyer and the @*#&$)(*&@#$ sides of the Monolith.

I'd use magnets for the Heavy Destroyer, but I'm not sure the magnet will stay in the torso. Other than superglue, if someone has a suggestion, I'm all ears.

The Monolith...I've used 4 different glues, but they simply won't hold. I sand carefully between glues, and ensure the service is free of any residue, but it simply won't stay..

Suggestions, thoughts, whatever welcomed.

Update:Brushed a coat of Tamiya Gun Metal, and liked the result so much, I'm stopping there (lightbox shot). Once the I get the gauss cannon tips painted, I'll go over everything with a black wash to make the edges stand out. I'm just happy to get this going again.

The two Warriors (one pointing upwards, the other downwards) started off as a gluing mishap, but looked different from the rest of the mob.

The Immortals were a real pain. The arms either wouldn't stay in the socket or had to be adjusted. I really, really hate metal. Sure it looks nice after everything's said and done, but it's a real *(&^)(*@&#$ to get there.

The Monolith's moving along, as you can see, thanks to Modelmaster glue. With big pieces such as the Monolith, liquid glue just can't hold it. Plus the gel gives you an extra few seconds to readjust positions.

Enjoy the show.

More work done...managed to airbrush the remaining warriors, Destroyers, Pariahs (Lychguard) and Immortals. Fixed up a few bad spots on the Spyder and a few other mis-sprays. Here's a pic of the Monolith moving along, one of the Immortals (custom left arm...I lost the original arm somehow, but used the arm from an original Immortal blister), and a couple of Warriors with contrasting paint jobs, and the Night Scythe. I have to say the Sycthe has to be the easiest GW anything I've ever assembled. Pieces fit well together with minimal effort, some without glue. Very impressed. And it looks good too.

The Monolith...i'm not sure there are enough words to describe how badly this came together. The sides are warped (two boxes, purchased in shrink-wrap, they're both warped), several other parts warped also. A lot of cleanup, but hopefully will look good.

You can see the beginnings of the C'tan shard. More pics to come.

I've had a bit more time lately, and have been banging away. I have to note here that things may seem a bit sloppy (seams showing, etc). I've been racing with what little free time I have to assemble/paint a 1,50 point army to actually play. I've barely played 3 rounds this year, and none in the last 8. So my primary focus is to assemble/paint/play.. Also, the Ork codex arrives next weekend, which means the horde of Orks rusting in the closet get their turn, too.

All that aside, the painting part has gone well. The Tamiya Gunmetal Grey looks so good, I'm sticking with it. I plan to wash everything in a watered-down flat black to bring out the details, then use Vellejo greens for the eyes/highlights.

Here are progress pics. I'm only showing a sampling, as my lightbox is very small.

First picture is a Destroyer Lord's staff. The box is old, and was missing the lower-half of the Staff of Light. I haven't seen anyone else try this...what I did was pin the green piece to the staff. The green pieces aren't that hard, if you have a good clamp to hold.

Second pic is the current workspace. The second Monolith is under contruction. HUGE thanks Catatonic at http://www.miniwargaming.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39508 for the great guide on assembling (with pics) a Monoloth. Catanoc and others recommend using rubber bands. I've found painter's tape usually does the trick. These two are original, 2002 cast Monoloths. Most of the sides were warped badly, causing the seams you see in the last pic.

Third pic shows most of the army, Modified Heavy Destroyers and Destroyers. All of these are waiting for the wash, except the Immortals.and Lychguard/Pariah. I'm trying several methods to connect the green rods without having to rely on super glue, which hasn't been reliable (Neccron Lord's missing arm proving that).

'Been busy with the new Ork Codex and getting caught up on Necrons. All the figures are base-painted, Tamiya Metallic Grey, no details yet. I like to detail after I get everything the same color.

The pics below of the old Warscythe ends is an idea I came up with...by sitting the 'blade' in a slotted base, it was in a perfect position to glue/set the green rods.

The second shows the Necron Lord. I've had a real hard time keeping the arm on, and finally resorted to super gluing/compressed with flat-pliers at the elbow., while pinning the green rod to the Staff of Light. it's not aligned properly with the base, which is annoying, but it seems to be staying put. It's embarassing having your HQ fall apart mid-game!

Both Monoliths are mostly complete, I have to fill in warped edges, but luckily I found out about GW's liquid green stuff. From what I've read, that should really help with filling in the gaps nicely without leaving bumps. I'm leaving the gate in a snap-in position while try several different battery-operated LED light sets. I've seen where others have hard-wired LEDs, but I'd rather have a replaceable option.

Finally two metal Spyders and the C'tan in progress. I had a hard time pinning the head in a different direction, and will have to green stuff the neck to make it look...interesting. I plan to paint the C'tan an amalgamation of Tyranid, Ork and Chaos colors, so an unusual spot on the body fills in the idea. I'm considering changing the right hand to something different...maybe a blade or tentacle to reflect the paint scheme.

One other thing I plan to do is create a custom Particle Beamer for one of the Spyders. Two have the metal Particle Beamer, the other is striclty claws. They're not very good in CC, but ranged/anti-psyker /repair fits nicely in to the games I've played so far.. I've got plenty of green rods and leftovers from the Heavy Destroyer boxes to cobble something together.

That's all for now. More to come within the week.
