Questions, critic and advice are all welcome. Hopefully this the right section.

Name: Stone Sentinels
Founding chapter: Imperial Fists
Colors: A combination of grays. Silver is most often used, but other metals are used to denote rank.
Battle cry: “Endure till the end” or “endure” for short.
Home world: Castellum.
Combat Skills: City fighting, defense.

The planets in the system have large quantities of metals and other rare minerals used by the Imperium, unfortunately Castellum is the only planet that is habitable enough to raise hive cities. Though habitable, Castellum is nowhere near a shrine world’s status. Most of Castellum is mountainous terrain and cold seasons where it is either raining or snowing. Hive cites are carved out of mountain sides, with the higher class city on the peaks and the lower class city built into the valleys. Filth rolls downhill.

The Stone Sentinel’s tactics and outlook are strongly influenced by their home world’s environment. Vehicles are used much less frequently, with only a few rhinos and the occasional tanks, preferring to land as close as possible and move in on foot. Shields are used more commonly within the chapter as well. Stone Sentinels also forgo boisterous colors and use grays instead to camouflage into the mountains. The lack of large tanks, the use of camouflage and the experience of fighting on a three-dimensional landscape, make for skilled city fighters. Stone Sentinels are specialised in defensive fighting and have great endurance for extended punishment and can hold a piece of ground others deem too difficult. Given enough time, they can make a hive city last as long as any fortress.

Like many descendants of the Imperial Fists, the Stone Sentinels are very stubborn and implacable. This expresses itself in their loathing to give up any ground to the enemy. They can weather even the most brutal storm of enemy fire in grim, silent determination. Like any space marine, they approve of marshal prowess, but what they hold highest are acts of great endurance and sacrifice to achieve their goal. One form of meditation the Stone Sentinels practice is performing manual labour or mundane tasks, whether it's maintaining their own armour and weapons or moving cargo. This serves two purposes: a repetitive task is a simple and easy way to calm one's mind and focus your thoughts, it also serves to humble one's self and remind them that they are not above simple tasks.

Those that are chosen by the sentinel's must pass another test. In the mountainous wilderness of Castellum, their are slopes dotted with old, abandoned mines; this is where the next group of initiates are left to survive. The air is thin from the high altitude, which means fires burn weak and cannot be depended for survival. That leaves the tunnels as the form of shelter and more importantly, protection. Away from the cities, the night is long and still holds sway and many creatures hide under her cloak of darkness. The initiates must use what tools that are abandoned to not only protect themselves, but to break rock to fortify and seal up the walls. Those that cannot fight will die, those who cannot labour will die, those who cannot endure will die. Those that have endured the night, the beasts and the cold when the Sentinels return may begin training as a space marine.

Stone Sentinels also have more interactions with the humans they guard. the Stone Sentinel's home world system has a lower population, and so have a higher value for civilian lives; where a space marine is a weapon, humanity is the forge and factory, one needs the other. Because the systems the Stone Sentinels hold have low populations, they also have a unique way of recruiting extra manpower. When Stone Sentinels have finished there mission, they will sometimes take survivors from the planet; those loyal citizens that no longer have a home or purpose, but have proven to be more physically or mentally fit by their ability to survive disaster. These survivors are then sent to serve their new purpose, either as serfs to marines, ship hands, PDF or imperial guard and so on. On the rare occasion a marine may even find a worthy candidate to become a marine.

Stone Sentinel’s gene seed has developed a small mutation where the skin turns stone grey. This skin colour, heightened endurance and lack of emotional reaction has led to rumours that they are actually made of stone.

I like it. The one thing I'd suggest, if you haven't started painting, is to make the grey skin as warm as you can make it: a warm gray is believable, a neutral or cold gray is probably going to look silly.

If I had to suggest a color, I'd say mix 1:2 black: bleached bone or elf flesh, up to the highest highlights in 1:10 or so of the same combo, for a good warm gray.

This is the skin color so far, it's just white with a black ink.

very very good! Believeable chapter, And should have alternate names for Terminators and either more or less of a certain unit.
Dreadnoughts and terminators for example for your chapter are more common place than lets say artificer armor. just a suggestion.

Lovely chapter.

Nice Solid lore, very firm and grim darky. And the mutation has to be the best part of the chapter.

I have this idea that terminators and dreadnoughts would have a guard title since they would stick to the flat ground, rather than wander through mountain passages. I also want to make a dreadnought with a giant shield.

That pic works nicely: unusual, but not super-weird.

Any suggestions on the emblem? I was thinking a shield, something simple.

Nope. Though I'll think of some battle history to make them look cooler, but I don't want to go over the top.

It's pretty good as is. It might be plain to some people but frankly I prefer that to Mary Sue.

I'd give the Stone Sentinels some defining fights, ones that add to their history and reputation. Perhaps a defense of hive worlds or rocky landscapes against a power or numerous foe?

As for it being plain, it is your chapter. They can bathe in the blood of Virgin female space marines all day long if you wanted.

Why, just check out Codex: Purplefood one day. Only two units.

Also I agree with Primarch Bloodcup, a hive city defensive battle would be a good idea. Against a cultist army maybe?

Here's the battle history I tried writing up.

Stone Sentinels War.

One of the Stone Sentinel’s more famous battles was the defense of the hive city called “Konato”. The planet was a forgeworld that had come under invasion by renegade forces, who were seeking out sacrifices and resources. Konato’s main purpose was refining promethium and various other fuels, making it a key city for the loyalists and a valuable resource target for the enemy. Before the siege began though, the city was faced with a second army; refugees had fled from those cities that were deemed too low a value to be defended, in a hope to survive, their people seeked out other shelter. Other cities refused, fearing they could not defend or shelter any more, but Konato’s doors opened for them under the Stone Sentinel’s command.

The Stone Sentinels were prepared for the enemy and had made the city ready the weather the storm. Buildings were fortified and every corner was its own bunker, promethium stores were ready to trap the enemy in fire. The imperial guard were sent to guard the walls and other static locations, ready pound the enemy and were joined by the marines’ greatest warriors the dreadnoughts and terminators, ready to hold their ground to the end. The more mobile marines melted were spread throughout the city, their grey armor the same colors as the city.

When the wall was eventually surrendered, the enemy thought they had begun victory, but soon learned that they had begun defeat. The marines had dispersed themselves throughout the city, waiting for the enemy to walk by, the loyalist as still as statues and unnoticed by the enemy. Tactical marines took the lower floors, while the assault marines took the higher levels. When the enemy was in position, they were met by a hail of fire, followed by marines falling from above to crush them. The stone around the renegades seemed to come alive, ready to slaughter them. If the renegades were the unstoppable force, then the Stone Sentinels were immovable object; when they held their ground, they were unyielding to any force the enemy could throw at them.

After months of throwing wave after wave at the city of Konato, the renegades’ siege ground to a halt as they ran out of supplies. Where many other hive cities had fallen, the city under the Stone Sentinels’ protection had endured the storm.

Lurking in the shadows...

Great idea for the army, very believable and cool colour scheme for their setting. Just gonna pick you up on a few things.

ready the weather the storm. - the to 'to'

ready pound the - add a 'to'

by the marines’ greatest warriors the dreadnoughts and terminators - would add a - after warriors

their grey armor the same colors as the city. - I would change city to 'the walls around them' or some such.

Also, the attackers running out of supplies before the defending forces just doesn't sound right to me, why could they not just bring more in?

Good stuff!

Great and very believable sounding chapter, backed up by an awesome historic battle report, I particularly like the bits in bold above; I can just imagine the helmet lenses flaring up as the renegades walk past and then

I like everything except of their use of camouflage. I thought Space Marine think that camo is cowardly, and prefer their enemies to know where they're at (hence their use of bright blue, yellow, red, green, ect.)

And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say "I think I'll have myself a beer"

I've seen a fair few 90's paint schemes done with tiger stripes and other forms of camo on marine armour. It looked complete gak though so I think they must've said "sod this" and kept that for the IG instead.

The Raptors are one chapter that springs to mind, I'm pretty sure their fluff said something about making a move toward using camo for the environments they fight in

My reasoning behind the supply shortage is that there are multiple sieges going on at different hive cities, with multiple supply trains. If one siege is failing and going through supplies too quickly, they won't be resupplied fast enough.

I really like the Character of your marine chapter. The obsession of endurance over all makes them similar in character to their progenitor legion and their stable of successor chapters, but they have a logical reason for placing more value on the lives of the people they protect, which makes them seem a little less distant than the Imperial Fists. This is interesting, since despite their unforgiving appearance, they are not stereotypically "stone-hearted".

I also like their penchant for physical labour, and how it almost substitutes the Imperial Fist use of the pain glove to obtain clarity of the mind, while avoiding the aloof nature of some chapters.

I also thought of the scenario Kitch102 suggested when ambushing the enemy with the marines hiding amongst the statues before powering up their armour and leaping into the fray.

As other have said, it really depends on the chapter in question. And beside I would find it much, much more scary to fight 8 feet super human warriors who just suddenly appear out of no where and start killing your comrades in arms, then disappearing just as sudden as they appeared.

And I dare say I really, really liked your chapter. And the paint scheme really did them justice me thinks
