... so, I really haven't felt in the mood to paint for a few weeks, and what with Golden Demon looming, and the White Scourge unfinished, I think I let the pressure get to me. The Avatar is packed and ready to go for next week, so there's no shame in only entering one model for the competition. I think I may have forgotten why I got back into this hobby a couple of years ago, and why it made me so happy (to be completely honest, it pretty much saved my life as it gave me something to focus on besides my ever-increasingly insane thoughts).
I love colour, the subtleties and the strength and the power of it. The messages it can send. I love painting and I am genuinely proud of my skill with a brush - it's one of the very few things that I am genuinely proud of. I love beautiful models, and painting them to the very best of my ability. I'm loving the fact that I keep getting better and that that shows in my finished models.
So... I've decided to take a little break from GW, and work on some othe models, just for the sheer joy and fun of it, and not worry about GW standards or aesthetics, or that the model would be one more in a growing playable army, or worrying that I still have so far to go until I HAVE a playable army.
... and our first contestant is: Mei Leung from the Smart Max SMOG range. I've had her for a while, and when I looked at the Smart Max site a few days I was reminded what fantastic miniatures they are, and suddenly wanted to paint again. Not much progress so far - cleaned up (still some spots to clean up), the dress based and washed - I want a light but strong chartreuse, a really glossy satin (so I have a long way to go!) Also the smoke and jade jewellery washed, and the base done nice and quickly with some careful placement of Devlan Mud and Gryphs Sepia.
enjoy : )

it's just the base that came with the mini. I'm going to pin her to it because once I finish her, there's the big Opium Dragon to do that she shands in the middle of, and he's got a base of his own, so I want to be able to switch between the two

fabric highlighted : ) I tried it chartreuse, but it was just too insipid, so I went for a stronger green instead. Scarf just basecoated - I'll be going for a lavender-ish blue.

Good call on taking a break from GW stuff if that's what's getting you down. This should all be about the fun of modeling/painting, as I think you clearly know. You do amazing work, and I really enjoy seeing what you come up with. GW or not. I personally just ordered some Dalek miniatures online and am excited to work on a few of them instead of orks for a bit.

Anyway, awesome start on this model! I just looked at the Smart Max store and their models are really well done. I may have to get one sometime.

Check out my Project (B)log! I would love any suggestion or comments you may have.
