I joined dakka about a week ago and since then all I've done is pester people with questions about paint and sm chapters and army lists etc. So I figured it was time I gave something of substance back to these forums! This is the first model I've painted in about 6 years so the rust definitely shows but I'm pretty pleased with it. I feel like it exceeds tabletop quality in some places and lacks detail/precision in others; the highlights aren't as sharp and clear as they could be and I need to add a script to the parchment on the leg. Let me know where and how you think I can improve!

Try using dark greys for black. Using actual solid black paint comes out so stark. I would also suggest a slightly darker highlight (this is just my personal preference). I really like to highlight 'black' with the dark grey Citadel Foundation. I think its called Adeptus Battlegrey or some such. Dont forget to highlight your reds. Perhaps use a wash on your metalics then highlight.

I really like the way you have done his robe. That looks fantastic!

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.

Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war.

I thought the highlights were a little too bright. Good news is that it's the easiest thing for me to paint back over. And yeah, I totally forgot to highlight the reds. Thanks for catching that!

The robe is definitely my favorite part :] Based it with the astronomical grey foundation, painted over that with bleached bone, washed gryphonne sepia into the crevices, and highlighted with skull white. It was actually way easier than I expected.
