I've been doing a lot of reading into the black Templar, got their codex and refurbished some awful looking squad from a friend of mine i got 3 or 4 months ago. I really like the concept of mixed squads and throwing yourself at the enemy in mass as a space marine army. Though their book is out of date the FAQ's give it useful updates that are required. Also painting shade colors and trying not to use to many washes on these guys, i want them to have a lot of detail. Every battle brother is a different soldier, each will look different. Every Templar will have a name and a special place in my army, each an individual. Went about purchasing a friends old space marine army he had just sitting around collecting dust.

THIS WILL BE A MASSIVE CRUSADE

Dont mind the missing insignia for the templar, i haven't got around to it and i still need to get my exacto back from my friend for the mold lines.

I like it! I look forward to seeing more! BTs are about the only official chapter I care for, so I love seeing em painted up all grizzly.

Dreadnought looks especially nice, I love the weathered, ironclad look. Also, wicked beakie with the old school pad.

Thought for the day

Looking good so far, keep at it!
Your white seems alittle thick thought, do you use a light grey layer before it or do you simply do many layers of white on black?

Thanks! 1 Layer of denab store and 2 layers of white, i haven't been painting for long and this is my first mass use of white. Any tips? Also my first actual space marine army.

Well, I'm not the master of white either =/ Only time I did white was a test model for my future white scars army (can be seen in my gallery). I did however like this tutorial maybe you can take something from it

Ah, starting a new army. It's like falling in love. Everything is new and exciting Good start you have going here. I like the script on the dreadnaught. It's those kind of details that really make a difference.

Is this a zero cost project (i.e. just repainting your buddy's old marines) or will you be getting the BT chapter upgrade? It's the best upgrade, imho, with rhino doors and everything!Your marines and dread could use some more bitz to say "Black Templars"

Keep it up,

Update: Got a feel for how the army works on Sunday, got some advice from a guy who plays as them and learned how much I hate painting white as well. I switched from white shoulder plates to scab red with blood red dry brush, so much better overall. The markov crusade force is very infantry heavy, lots of terminators and a fair amount of supporting vehicles to keep the enemy under control.

This army is going to be an army of well painted marines and neophytes. I will be devoting a considerable amount of time painting and finishing them. No such thing as lazy work. Perfection is my goal with the templar and I plan on doing it.

Got a handy new brush as well and got a pretorian model today

Worked on veteran initiate, Sgt.Tiber. though I didn't finish him because of school work. He is progressing quite well considering the fact that I haven't really been painting as zelously as I had.

This squad took a long time even for me, i usually speed paint, but I thought, not with this army, this army is going to win something and i am going to be proud of them. Every last spec of their being. With the Markov Crusade, all of my armies that i have are going to be tied in with this, my eldar force, chaos, and imperial guard. So far the Reavers have taken control of the Markov System and with the help of their pirate and rebel army of cultists and renegades they have a hold on the system. The Eldar are there to soley protect their webway portals and the Black Templar have sent 3 Crusade fleets to reclaim the system by any means necessary.

I really dislike how I spend an hour typing up a legitimate and decent story to tell you chaps and my phone sh**s out on me and I cant reload the page or else it resets, so I will post the story tomorrow and put up pictures tonight from my hours work on my friends cleanly painted white consuls into black templar.

Picture heavy update from my phone, this may take a while... on to story time then,

As only one crusade fleet numbering no more then 200 templar arrived in the system, they immediately set up shop on a nearby planet, the Marshall of the expedition, Marshal Reinz Beruct, instructed the tech marine of the chapter, Xerios, to construct a mighty fortress and to set up keeps throughout the planet in order to bring in new blood for the crusades very minimal amount of able bodied marines... and so begins the templars invasion.
