Why does it look like the free hand on the right side is gouged.

Looks pretty good so far. Maybe a bit more complex, but still looks good

I'm going to guess he tried to engrave or burn it in before painting it. Probably wrong

Not sure what you are wanting for your scheme It sounds and looks like there was not a lot of planning The scheme might look better if it was symmetrical, ie a mirror image of each other. The front curves are going the same way which doesn't look convincing to me. It is not so important if you are doing some sort of camouflage, but given the stylisation and colour scheme I suspect that is not the case I would suggest taking a bit of time to plan and sketch your design first

I wasnt going for symmetrical, this was just a test for some main "vines" that would probobally go all through the tank
Does anyone like that idea?

I like the idea, but I agree with Chibi that having the fronts vines looking so similar in position is a bit... odd. At any rate, it is a good start I'd say.

out of focus pictures are out of focus...
I think this could fall under the less is more category.
A few of these vines sparingly across the hull would look awesome. To me it just looks busy now, but I'm just one guy.

Maybe to help tie it in or blend it in with the orange and black you could try:
Using high-lighting(not sure if thats the word i need here) with light blue over the dark blue lines. VERY SPARINGLY.
A Black:Blue mix and run the fine line around the outside of the filagree to "smooth" the lines and help them blend more.
I dont mind bright colors, but something isnt quite right with how these work for me. I like the idea though, just blending it more might make it look more awesome

I personally really like it. It looks really cool, almost like chain-lightning. I guess the only thing is that some of the "root" ones are a little thick. They are almost folding on themselves. And I disagree with the others, I think more is more in this case. Cover the whole thing in them. But I would go for more thinner vines then less thicker ones.
