Tutorial Below \/

Step 1; Base gold areas with a warm brown (Here I have used Calthan Brown Foundation. Scorched Brown, Bestial Brown or Snakebite Leather are also acceptable).

Step 2; Paint over with a 2:1 mix of Shining Gold and Tin Bitz*

Step 3; Wash with Devlan Mud

Step 4; Re-apply the Step2 mix, leaving the recceses alone**

Step 5; Highlight liberaly with Shining Gold**

Step 6; Highlight moderately with 2:1 Shining Gold/Mithril Silver

Step 7; Highlight very sparingly with Mithril Silver alone. Concentrate just on the upermost areas.

Step 8; Light final wash with Gryphonne Sepia (This should stain the Silver and give the gold a warm look that makes it pop)

Step 8+; (Here I have edged the gold back but kept the warmth by washing again with Gryphone Sepia/Azuremen Blue at 5:1 ratio. You can do this as an option to deepen the effect but stages 1 through 8 should give you a good gold. Alternitively if the silver is still a bit much you can wash again with Gryphonne Sepia)

Step 9; Cleanup and Done! Alchemy be damned, you have created GOLD!

*: Remember not to water down metallics. The pigment is to thin for it. Just make sure not to apply dry paint. Mix the paitn in small amount and remix as nescessary
**: May take two coats.

Here's some model shots... Some are incomplete (chainswords and bolt pistols). And the backpacks are off (have them magnetised)
The WIP is my Captain under construction (my puppy ate the sword arm, must've dropped it on the floor). Got some bitz coming in the mail to finish him.
Again, apologies for the pinkish hue from the desk lamp.
Thanks again for the kind replies.

Bit of a random observation, but I really like the wings on your dread's sarcophagus. The rest of the army looks pretty damn good but would look even better with decent lighting.

I find that gold is pretty fun to work with. I don't know why, maybe because it is kind of easy to make it look good. Since I've started dwarfs I've been using a lot more gold and this recipe looks really good. I also love using gryphon sepia, its like, liquid talent. I'm gunna have to give this a shot. Thanks for the advice!

Cheers for the kind words fellas. More than happy to lend a hand.
I'm going to be spraying some models over the weekend. Got some friends coming over for some painting lessons and they'll be done for demo.
I'm happy to bust the camera out and do more tutorials if anyone's interested (I know you cant post request threads, but surely you can throw ideas around in a thread?)
Again, I'm a new member and don't want to overstep my mark. Someone mentioned interest in my Blood Angel recipe IIRC.
Once again, thanks for the feedback.
Cheers -d'L

The gold looks really good, is there any way you'd be able to edit the pictures so that the appropriate picture follows each step?

Thankyou. It looks more like bronze to me, but that might just be the piccies.

Its a nice metal cover anyway. I have been having troubles with gilt asquailas for my marines. I shall take notes.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
