3 successful games so far, thought I'd say the idea.
Firebelly (level1), great weapon, flying carpet.
Turn 1, he hangs out near advancing ogres (or scouting maneaters) for both hard cover and a 4+ look out.
Turn 2, he flies into the middle of the enemy lines. Dropping a flame temple (after 20" move) is awesome. In the middle of the enemy, he's usually untargetable by most warmachines.
I hit 34 men at arms last night, killed ~20 or so. That turns a major tarpit into a 1-2 turn speed bump.
He's also hit warmachines, fast cav, and gone into flanks/rears of prolonged combats, bringing an impact hit, a stomp, and 3S6 attacks (along with +1 res for charging and +1/+2 for flank/rear).
179 points of burning butt kicking. Cheap enough that it's not total disaster should he get cannoned turn 1.
Worth trying. Every bit as good as hunters are bad.

Great set-up indeed. This is exactly the reason why our local Dark Elves player always makes room for Black Dragon Egg on his Dark Pegasus mounted Dreadlord.

Nice... I don't know anyone who's had this idea yet. Maybe I will start that long awaited OK army after all...

Pretty sure it's a solid 50 points. Nicely done Matt
Speaking of firebellies, dude at Crossroads this last weekend was talking about running 5 of them @ 2500 points, and honestly I'm kind of in love with that idea too. He was also complaining loudly about being required to take a maw wizard somewhere, and I felt like pointing out all of the asinine requirements that ogres have lost
Anyway, yay for firebellies.

You only have to take Maw if you include a butcher or slaughtermaster.
You can take 5 firebelly's at 2400, base cost is 120 each.

Oh really?? I'm guessing he was looking to run a slaughtermaster with a different lore, hence having to run a level 1 maw butcher was the issue. Admittedly, I've not bought the new ogre book, despite having a painted 7th edition army of the dudes

I think firebutts are one of the best things in the new book. Flaming attacks, a template, good stats, cheap and can spam fireball if nothing else.
I haven't been able to get much into real hobbies lately, but i had an idea of making a commando squad of Ogres. Painted in cammo (but a slightly stupid cammo Ogres would pick), leadbelchers, gun-toting maneaters, and 2 firebutts modelled with flamethrowers. Maybe an armored spec-ops Gorger. Basically, their fluff is that they slaver trade with the chaos dwarfs for advanced weapons. I haven't come up with a good name but it would be like Firebutt's Raiders.
Very significant gunline, multi-casting firebutts. Though I didn't plan on taking mournfangs, cannon, scrap and that's a lot of stuff to give up.

2 Fire Bellies, minimum core, 2x leads, 2x scraps, 2x ironblasts, and ~6 duel pistol maneaters is a pretty tough gunline, that you can't beat with normal Anti-gunline tactics.
The weakness is generally low leadership, but if you work to limit the spread of panic, you'll do fine.
