I've been looking for a base colour for my IG tanks, specifically a desert theme. I've seen several examples of yellow tanks on Forge World, but I don't know what they used, nor if I want that colour. I want it to be a yellow, as the rest of my troops are painted with yellow influenced colours (Knarloc Green, Kehmri Brown /Kommando Khaki, Calthan Brown). I considered using Kehmri/Kommando, but I'm afraid it will be too pale. Help please?

Well, "Desert yellow" should do it for you. You could allways make a pattern with a bit darker colour if you like, but (as far as I've seen) desert yellow is the colour that is closest to "real" desert camo.

This is what I've used for years, on 40k and actual military models. It's from the German WWII Afrika Corps. It looks a little dark in the pictures, I have some lighter colored weathering powder that makes it look really good. You could also highlight or drybrush with something a little lighter.
Alternatively Krylon sells camoflage paints at most discount stores and it's lighter (camoflage khaki). (I use it for the base coat on my Tallarn troopers)

edit- I found out that the color of your primer makes a very big difference in the final look. I usually use gray automotive primer and it looked shockingly brighter with white primer. I haven't tried black. I'd suggest testing on some junk bits before you spray anything important

Hey, if you like the Desert Yellow look, Army Painter makes a Desert Yellow (or some similar name) primer! It makes painting tanks really easy. As an added bonus, it matches up really well with Vallejo's Desert Yellow, so that you can easily touch up spots (still bitter about GW Space Wolf Grey spray not being the same shade as GW Space Wolf Grey paint, I am).

I'm going for a desert style colour scheme with my Elysians.
I achieved my colour by using vallejo model colour paints. It's a basecoat of german camo orange, then a coat of dark sand, with edge highlinghts of ivory. It works well i think.
I find it a lot easier to work from a white undercoat too.

In the UK, an automotive chain (Halfords) sell a desert yellow ('yellow ochre') coloured primer - try that.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
