I am starting a new tyranid army. It will be based around Tervigons and T6 spam. I will have to paint up around 6-7 MC's and about 50 termagants more or less. I have a pretty busy scheduele, and I wish to paint a tabletop standard ++ as fast as possible. Here are some pictures of different color schemes that I like. What I need from you, dakkanauts, are tips on painting up these quick as hell while looking as good as possible within the limitations of time. And what scheme that's easiest to paint up fast while looking good. And perhaps most important what colors are these?

In preferred order:

I can tell you what the top one is.....as it is mine.

It is;

1. White undercoat (sprayed on).

2. Sunburst Yellow Basecoat.

3. Ogryn Flesh wash.

4. Light drybrush with Sunburst Yellow.

Then;

5. Carapace painted Bleached Bone

6. Devlan Mud wash.

7. Liche Purple details.

And that is it. It is extremely fast and easy, especially if you paint 10-20 models at a time.

I chose that colour scheme because I wanted my Tyranids painted RIGHT NOW.

Haha! Brilliant! I love your color scheme. It really stands out. As a White Scars player I do like the bright colors and that one can see the models from the other side of the table. Thanks a million for the instructions. How do you do it when you paint lots of models, do you first apply step 1 on everything, then step 2 and so on?

And do you have more pictures of these lovely nids of yours, Steelmage99?

Well.

In order to not "burn out" on painting one colour on a horde of models, I separate them into groups (like 10 groups of 3 models, for example).

I then paint the flesh Sunburst Yellow on the three models in group A.

(This is my first pass)

I then paint the flesh Sunburst Yellow on the three models in group B, then apply the Ogryn Flesh to group A.

(this is my second pass)

I then apply Sunburst Yellow to group C, Ogryn Flesh wash to group B and then drybrush Sunburst Yellow to group A.

(Third pass)

I then paint Sunburst Yellow on group D, Ogryn Flesh wash to goup C.....and so on....and on...and on.

This allows the washes to dry on the previous groups, so I can continually keep painting.
Keep in mind that on the first and second pass, the wash might not have time enough to dry, but on the sixth and onwards it will.

Remember you can be as sloppy (and quick!) about the Sunburst Yellow, Ogryn Flesh wash and Sunburst Yellow drybrush as you like. The carapace will be repainted in Bleached Bone anyway.

The above method is especially good if you are using a wet palette, as the various paints on the palette don't dry up between passes.

Great! So I just have to concentrate on step 5 through 7 really? Step 1 through 4 is all about speed and getting the colors on the model without making then look like this:

The 10X3 model approach looks like a good idea, then you get some variation in what you do so you dont feel like you're working on an assembly line. Thanks again!

Somewhere in south-central England.

Here's mine:

Grey spray primer.
Pale spray underneath.
Medium spray sides.
Dark spray top.

(You'll want to do a bit of masking during the sprays. I used a sheet of aluminium cooking foil, folded and handheld. The arms of the larger creatures were painted off the body and cemented on before the Quickshade stage.)

Red oxide mouth.
Pink teeth and claws.

You can ignore those stages on the Termagants if you like.

Army Painter Quickshade Soft, painted on and off. It may take two coats to get the best effect.

Matt varnish spray.

I painted the entire army in two long weekends. There are 66.6 Termagants, three MCs, 11 Warriors including a Prime, four Hive Guard, six Zoanthropes, three Venomthropes and three Raveners.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
