I thought of this a while back and its a very simple, cheap, and easy way to get a resin quality base from GW bases for painting competitions, centerpieces, or even a whole unit. It works well with round or square bases, I've done both.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

2 GW bases of the same size
Milliput or equivalent putty
Sandpaper

STEP #1 - Take base A and glue it to base B top to top
STEP #2- After glue dries, fill the sides with putty and smooth as much as possible trying to get sharp edges if using square bases. (This will save you sanding time)
STEP #3- Sand all sides smooth and square.

The best part is water effects work great with this method because there is a lip around the top of the base. It also looks sweet to "lay" in plasticard bricks or put a ball of putty in it and sculpt cobblestones. I've also made a few different blanks like the grey one below and made molds so I can cast them if I feel like it. If your bases you're using have the round peg hole protrusions just cut them out. Also make sure you finish sanding with a fine grit because you can see any imperfections once painted. Hope yall like this and it works for some of you. Here is a couple examples, think its enough to give you an idea of what I've described.

heres a finished one i used in an ogre painting competition. Sky is the limit when you have the sunken top with the lip. Allows clean easy use of liquid and thin basing substances.

Here is an example of this technique used to make round bases. Took 30 min to make them, just a bit of sanding and they are ready for details.
