I'm looking to scratchbuild about 9 Scythe vehicles for Necrons, and I'm wondering how large people think they should be, how thick, etc, and what material would work best for making them. I was thinking extruded polysterene foam. Thoughts?

Open your codex, wether or not bought or downloaded, flip to the bestiary entry of the nightscythe, look at the _proper picture_ they have provided.

My advice would be to use the scythe-like parts of the transportoptions, etc etc.

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!

Thanks for what I can only assume is a sarcastic comment, however if you read my post I'm not actually looking for what it looks like or what shape or anything like that. I'm asking how big people think I should make it, and what materials would be best used for making it.

The picture should give you an idea of how large to make it.

The necron pilot part, especially.

Probably about a 28-30cm span, 25 or so cm front to back (an ellipsoid the rough size of a Valkyrie) - or you could make it more circular).

Structure hardfoam (I'd use polyurethane over polystyrene - even the extruded poly) shaped and skimcoated.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Thanks, is the structure hardfoam the white foamboard?

Edit: I did look it up, and couldn't find a good picture of it or where I could buy it.

The official models will be released within half a year. Size should be similar to Eldar tanks.

I am expecting it to be around the width of a valkyrie and the length to be about 3/4 of that dimension. But it does look like it would be a fun build. good luck!

No, it's a yellowish-white expanded polyurethane foam used for insulation and sold in sheets not unlike the blue or pink stuff - but polyurethane not polystyrene.

I'm blessed with a modelmaker supplies paradise in the adjacent suburb though.

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Use a Falcon Grav tank as a base... will make it much easier, trust me

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

This guy made a couple Necron vehicles years back, but I think they would fit in very well.

Personally, I think this sounds MUCH too large, I would say about 60% of that size after very closely looking at the picture.

Of course, this is an entirely subjective estimate, who knows what we will get...

Use Garage Sale signs.

I used 3 different diameter circles that are somewhere around 17, 21, and 27 centimetres. If you wander around your house long enough you will find them. I used a couple plates and some plastic lid. You can use these circles to draw your basic shapes and cut them out with an exacto knife.

I should have some pics soon so keep your eyes open. I want to work on my conversion a bit more before I put it up here for you all to look at.

Agreed.

The eldar skimmers or too narrow, they would need some serious cutting and re-modelling to work imo.

That and they still look like Eldar models after you're done.

Google 'Necron Night Scythe Bell of Lost Souls' and look at the one that will come up with wings that look like they've been made from Green Stuff. Probably the closest to the artwork I've seen. I'd link it directly, but my pasting isn't working right now and the URLs are too long to type!

I like that conversion above, but doesn't it seem kind of small?

A little, but not much. If you look at the pic in the codex, I estimate the wings to be about 8 cockpit widths long (and curved in much more than that). That one above looks more like 5-6 cockpit widths. Meh, it's a scratch-build and has the advantage of not actually holding the models that are transported in it.

Let's also be honest, the scales of artwork don't always correspond to actual model size. We all know that most vehicles are smaller than they should be (and smaller than the dimensions are in Codexes).

I think if you used an eldar falcon as a base it could be a good starting spot. First, remove the hull behind the cockpit. Then shave all Eldar-esque parts off. Cut a V out of each wing to give a more spread look & flip them upside down so the scallops & ridges are facing up. Trim the wings back a bit at the tips to improve the crescent shape.
