well, after much waiting and planning and painting of basic gaunts and such, i finally decided to actually photo and blog my progress. to date i only have a few of each painted, but i have managed to somewhat salvage a tyrant and carnifex and paint up a few gaunts and a trio of warriors. i also recieved the body of an arachnoric spider today for use in my tervigon. (one of a few im making, but im doing one at a time for now).

ill include pics of the rest of the bugs later since they are pretty basic and mainly test platforms for paint schemes. in the mean time i began work on the tervigon with assembling of the arachnok spiders body... and this thing is HUGE compared to most tyranid and even GW kits.

with the torso done, i took some photos of it just for comaprison. its probally the size or even larger then a built carnifex, and it dwarfs a termagaunt.

i also did some dry fitting and i figure a carnifex torso flipped upside down fits nice and perfect on the front of the spider body. although i would have to trim the "teeth" off the front of the spider to allow a clean fit. i also figure ill "lean" the fex torso back more, to make it look like its surverying its brood. i also added a good sized chunk of green stuff in the joint to fill it up and prevent holes near the join. once the GS cures a bit, ill trim it down and try my attempt at sculting "niddy" texture into it - but i dont hold much hope of a decent job, since this will be my first real try at full on GS conversion work.

i like what i see so far!

did some more work on the tervigon. i fitted a head in, and did some initial scultpting into the GS filling the torso join. i also tried some upper arm fits. i didnt really like the look of the crusher claws and scytals, so i am waiting untill i can aquire another carnifex box. i also noticed a gap in the fron of the torso, and discovered that warrior "shoulder pads" fit almost perfectly here. anyway, some more pics, including the failed upper arm optoins. (those arms are now working as legs instead, along with some other scytals i salvaged off old models and a pair i painted as a test for my new scheme.

This looks awesome so far mate! I can't wait to see the final results!

Are you going to run it with Hive Tyrant rules?

i love this conversion but you really need to make the butt fit in, shave it down and put some 'nid plates or something otherwise it looks like a nid with a spider butt

its going to be run as a tervigon.


how exactly would you suggest i "shave down: the spider but? its pretty much 2 big pieces with a top cover. plus i kinda like the spikey "bulb arse" i might add some spikes and stuff though just for show.

Oh man, one of those earlier shots gave me a wicked idea.

Would take a bit of sculpting, but I think it's simple enough.

thats kinda the effect i tried to get... sort of like a big turtle. anyway, got some paint on the guy, ive managed to get the first coat on, and its looking pretty decent. my GS skills arent the greatest, but thankfully its not really super visible.

also i grabbed a few shots of the warriors as well.

did some painting work on the tervigon today. was able to get the back "spider" section pretty much done. the entire surface seemed kind of blank... so i did some research and took a page from nature, adding red "streaks" along the side. it was pretty much done by blending scab red and chaos black, then washing with badab when done.

Although, are you going to paint the entire spider that color, or just the back? Cause I'm not sure if the paint scheme will blend that way.

Just the back carapace section. Everything else gets the bone or dark blue treatment.
