Whats up guys. Last weekend I brought out the store Necron army to a 4 game 1500pt tourney at Battle Bunker Games in Antioch. No proxes for me this time around so I had to make my list off what we had. (other then the amount of scarab bases .) Anyways this is my list,

-Summary-
He won first turn deploying his army spread out centrally. I made my wall centrally as well with my ghost arks followed by my spyders and scarabs behind. and my destroyers behind everything. I seize because of the stormlords ability. My game plan was to harvest up a good amount of scarabs then move up towards his lines Which was about 28 bases. He played the game very defensively and stayed back most of the game. Grabbing the first Kp right off the bat from my Heavy D's gave me the upper hand thru out the game. I then went off his mistake and bum rushed his lone purifier unit to my far wrecking the rhino then taking the charge his turn and whipping the unit out. Good close game, I win 5 to 3 in the end. I think I got the poop out range and scarab chain tactic down pretty well. I was non stop pooping them out the entire game and it just became to much to deal with haha.

-Post Game-
I think he was better off rushing up the field to my lines. Allowing me to harvest up a swarm then pick out targets gave me the upper hand.

Game 2

-Summary-
He won first turn placing his entire army centrally. I picked my corner and stayed there. I attempt to seize and fail. This game didnt go to well. Not only did the night fight go off turn 2, with a reroll keep in mind. The first turn he rolled really high and saw right thru my night fight. He bum rushed me and by turn 2 he was in my lines messing stuff up. I didnt have enough scarabs by the time he got there. I lose, damn near getting tabled other then my last warrior unit with the stormlord and cyptek.

-Post Game-
Him getting first turn gave him the upper hand. Allowed him to get to my lines fast enough to only get a turn or 2 to make scarabs. Plus he was targeting my spyders with mass amounts of plasma cannons killing a couple spyders and scarabs. I think if I left my objective for dead and deployed on the opposite side in a attempt to go after his I would have stood a better stance. Something to think about next time.

Game 3
Seize Ground, Spear Head

Player- Reece/ Grey Bush. ( Another Zero Comp / shop member)
Army- Khorne Chaos Marines

HQ
Khorn

Troops
9x Khorne berzerkers

10x Khorne berzerkers
-Rhinos-

7x Lesser Daemons

Heavy Support
landraider

dozer blades

landraider

dozer blades

-Summary-
Once again my opponent goes first and I fail to seize. I got really lucky this game and his first move/ dice rolls of the game saw his far land raider getting immobilized with double 1s. After that It wasnt looking to good for him. I stayed back for the most part harvesting scarabs. My heavy D's popped his rhino. We called the game turn 4, there was really no way back into the game. I win 3 objectives to 1.

-Post Game-
I wasnt sure what the outcome of this game would be at first glance. But I knew if he didnt get the charge off, the list could hold its on.

Game 4

-Summary-
Championship game. He got first and spread out his army across his corner. I made my usually wall with the ghost arks. I knew I had to hide my scarabs from his large amount of large s6-7 bast templates. So I hide them behind my tomb spiders. Most of the game was staying in our deployment zones trying to shoot each other in the dark. I stayed back and once again harvested scarabs. I bailed his two witch units into assault which worked... But they ended up staying in combat for the rest of the game. By turn 5 I was up by 1 kill points. The game went on, and we were given extra time to keep going. He ended up tieing the game grabbing 2 kps, and me finishing off the wyches in combat in his turn. The game went on to turn 7 time had to be called just in time for him to tie. The store owner had to go. So I got owned out of a win. My scarabs now over 40 deep where able/ in range to multi charge 3 vehicles. O well though, it was a small tournament. Not too worried about it.

-Post Game-
Not too much I would have changed about this game, other then leaving my warrior units in reserve instead of in the arks. Good game either way though. And a good showing for a decent Necron List.

a friend and i have spoken in length about how the new necrons are going to play out. as a nid/tervigon spam'r, i'm not in the least bit surprised that spiders breeding more scarabs has taken off as the top dog.

what i'm most surprised is that your list preformed so well at 1.5k! i was under the impression that they would need more toys to win games but perhaps sheer numbers of scarabs is enough.

as to your list, do you think the heavy destroyers have a place in the army at higher points levels? my thinking was that making the scoring troops more survivable while providing cover/screening out the spiders was neccisary with the extra points for higher level games?

Honestly if I had wraith models, I would have used that. The Heavy destroyers arnt that good for there point cost. They die far to easily. I think wraiths or a C'tan have a better roll in a list like this. I would up the warrior units to 8 mans in the ghost arks. Probably take the solar pulse cyptek to help out if night fight ends faster then expected (like it did this tourney almost every round.)

I really think Spider Harvest lists are too gimmicky.... it relies way too much on one unit, and doesn't have anything to compensate when that unit gets ploughed.

Good rep tho! Nice to read up on the 'Cronz

Spider harvest is only a 600 point investment. Plenty of points left over to compensate when things go badly.

ONly issue is you dont get a reroll on the night fight, as it is not a roll made by the Stormlord - you dont even have to have him on the table, or alive even, its an army ability.

Of course GW may FAQ it to change the rules, but currently a chrono doesnt do much for the stormlord.
