Here's a flying base I just finished up for my recently acquired Tau Baracuda. Went for a desert theme and was wondering what everyone thinks about the sandstone I sculpted. I'm thinking about adding a short fat cactus like plant to add a little color, do you think it needs it?

Added some plant life, including a little space cactus I sculpted. Think it really gave the base life.

The rarefied atmosphere

looks a bit low for an airplane.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Strafing run, aircraft do have the ability to fly low and they often do. I would expect more advanced and futuristic aircraft to be capable of flying even an inch off the ground. Plus I only cut 3" off the stem, not any less realistic than the norm. I cut it so my aircraft will all be at different heights

Well now that was brought up if the cactus wasn't there, it would give the illusion that its flying over a mesa hundreds of feet in the air.

there are cacti and other plants on mesas, I really dont understand how this height is any more or less realistic than the regular flying base. Cut or uncut they both display the aircraft as flying very low because its necessary for managability during gameplay.

The difference is that this particular height makes it far harder to get LOS on the aircraft to shoot it down.

If someone is worried about that then they probably arent very fun to play with anyways, I dont think this trim would affect gameplay too drastically. I think by posting this I was looking more for some opinions on the actual base and not stem height. I dont mind constructive criticism at all, but I didnt expect the focus of comments to be about the stem. But regardless thank you guys for the comments

I've got a Valkyrie base, and if I were to cut it down that low...I can't imagine a reaction from even the most laidback gamers which would be incredibly positive.

It doesn't seem to be cut that low - most of the flying stand is hidden in the rock and to be honest it's probably also for the safety of the model as well.

Expensive FW flyers do not want to be on a spindly flying stand because if it falls over and goes crunch...

But very nice.

Now only a CSM player.
