Just wondering if anyone can link me to any massive showcase of bases modelled after alien worlds. I'm currently in the process of building a Necron army and have my first unit of Lychuard fully complete but their bases are still only primed black as I'm not sure what to go for. I'd like them to be different from my other armies (Cadians - Desert / Krieg - Urban Snow), but I don't want them to be the classic Necron Tomb World black/grey as I just think it makes them look unfinished really.

I did a Dakka search on Necrons in the gallery to look at bases and didn't find anything I was really keen on, and the Games Workshop article on bases just had the generic woodland/desert/snow etc. I'd be interested in making them look like they are on a Mars-type planet, but I've never been much good with red and Mars is more browny than block red anyways so I imagine there's more to it than just different shades of red.

But really, I'm open to any out-there basing styles. Anything that is more unique/alien/off-world/exotic is desirable!

So, anyone be able to help? I'd appreciate it alot cause I'm at a loss here and I hate seeing my Lychguard sitting with unfinished bases!

Heres the bases I'm using for my necrons. These specifically were made for my Lych. I wanted them to look like tombworld bases but not boring. So I went for a chocolate spongy ground with random sinkholes and crystals. It's different that's for sure

Probably not exactly what your looking for, and I don't have pictures up yet, but I'm doing mine as they rise up in an imperial city. I make fairly standard city bases, the destroy them a bit, tearing up tiles, adding burnt grass and ash drifts, broken and discarded guard equipment, and adding scrap metal and rubble. Too add some more alien feel I decided my scarabs left glowing green trails and puddles of glowing green goo so various pieces support gouged out glowing trails, walls with holes in them, and partially eaten space marines and vehicles. I then do OSL on the environment and units around the glowing bits.

Thanks for the pics mate, it's stuff like that I'm looking for for ideas - anything out of the ordinary! Anything alien and exotic really. And to riplikash, I've got Imperial pieces with metal and rubble-type stuff on some of their bases, it's more the actual colouring of the landscape they're on I'm looking for. I'd add OSL too but I just can't pull it off unfortunately. I like your scarab idea though!

If anyone's interested, here are my Lychguard. It was taken on my iPhone and has come out surprisingly well! I don't have an airbrush and I can't do blending or OSL so unfortunately there's nothing interesting going on in those departments, and that carries over to their weapons.

I think without the use of those techniques you did a nice job.
