So I'm working on converting a Repulsive Grand Cruiser from being a chaos ship to a free wheeling (pirate) imperial Rogue Trader vessel.
I thought I'd post up my work as I go through and ask for feedback and tips

Today I shaved off the main chaos symbol and replaced it with what I thought might be a nifty warp antenna, a friend of mine says it looks pants and I'm liable to agree so thoughts and suggestions?

Well thought I should post up something
Also going to ask a mod to shift this to the blog thing
Been at work on this thing, removed the other chaos symbols and plated over the ones on the prow with greenstuff, now I just need to clean up and smooth up the work and I can actually think about gluing it.

I'd still love some feedback and suggestions

So, another day and another update
After filing off the chaos symbols on the wings I wanted to replace them with something and made up some small Aquila. The picture isn't to good but you can see the general outline if not the details.
I also finished up the prow and noticed that a strut was missing which I fixed up /very/ carefully. I'm also wondering how I should go about smoothing over the prow bits.. right now I file down the excess greenstuff so any tips would be appreciated

Edit:
Included a shot of an idea I had, I took an aquila from a sergeant chopped and sanded it a bit and then put it on the front... quite nifty!

Well no pictures today, but I went ahead and stuck the wings to the prow and its looking much nicer without the blutack in the way. It also still exposes one torpedo tube on each side so I'm debating about filling it in with greenstuff later or just leaving it as is. (I may be putting on more greenstuff to help support the skull that goes on the very front.)

Meanwhile I'm considering also converting a second Repulsive Cruiser into a sister ship to this one (Albeit still chaos but dedicated to Nurgle), I would also be giving it more extensive modifications to the weaponry, with the traditional guns replaced with converted plasma cannons (made out of Space Marine plasma pistols!).

I have to say I'm finding working with the Battlefleet models much more interesting then the Space Marines when I first got into the hobby

I've no idea Were actually playing Rogue Trader and me being crazy decided to buy and mod a ship to the one my char owns in game
That said the fleet battles seem somewhat similar in nature and they are extremely fun so far (We blew up a warp core... causing a tear in the warp, destroying a moon and causing a demon infestation on the planet it orbited >.>...)

Anyhow!
New pictures, I got the wings and the skull on the prow (tho I think an eagle head would be more interesting but I lack the skill to make it that small) Also I'm slightly worried that the skull is skewed a bit :/ I have 3 more pairs of wings and skulls I could use to replace these ones but I would like feed back and advice before hand

Nice! I was thinking of doing something like this myself! The skull looks perfect imo, can't wait to see the ship finished!

So, sorry for lack of updates. I placed an order with Wayland games (advertised by this site!) and sadly my order was missing parts (specifically the pin vice/drill was missing parts) and while they were very fast to get back to me about it I'm still waiting for it to show up in the mail so.. no progress as yet on that front.

I'm also looking into buying some non-gw spray paint and trying it out on some poor unsuspecting space marines to see how it works as a base coat.

Other then that I've made a small thing that'll help me make greenstuff into a uniform thickness from which i can make a flag and other things as needed (that's right, I'm putting a flag on this lol)

Finally I ended up removing that awful red thing from the bridge.. but I do need something to replace it with. I already have aquilla on the "wings" that come off the bridge so does anyone here have a suggestion for the bridge itself?

So here we are a few days later and a new month.. which means new updates.
Sadly Wayland game's replacement pin-vice is yet to materialise so progress has been slowed somewhat. In the meanwhile I've been looking at what spray paints are available locally, the short answer not much.

So last night I glued the two main segments of the hull together and then greenstuffed the cracks, as ever I had to much greenstuff and so moved onto greenstuffing the joint between the prow and the rear hull segments, so they now sit somewhat more flush.

Now all I need is the thing to pin it together with >.>

Update time again folks

So this day has been... interesting. Wayland games have assured me they're working to get me a replacement pin-vice and in the meantime I managed to find someone locally that stocks GW stuff, not that I want the paint but the primer and sealer are both great to finally have (It was even cheaper then the stuff in the Hardware store to boot)

Today I worked on the bridge and finally got something I liked, after much carving (and loosing the first piece I made) I finally managed to create this "mini" bridge skull piece which tops it off much better then that horrible red thing. I think it'll look nice in gold or brass perhaps.

Where abouts in Ireland are you based? Models Inc in Dblin seemed a good FLGS while I was over there. The ships looking great can't give you much advice over getting straight edges with greenstuff personally I aways use styrene and card or plasticard for that sort of plating. The new bridge is looking far better.

I'm actually all the way down in Kerry
Wrong side of the country for me but eh

Still waiting on the pin-vice so I've only been doing small amounts of work on the mini (nothing to really post about)
I've also dug out a space marine I'm going to turn into a deathwatch marine too

Fair enough I'm not sure it's still open hope it is looked a good place to visit if your ever in Dublin even if it is on the North Side. I was working on the roads in Carlow when I was over there a couple of years back now I'm back in blighty.

I know what your thinking, why are their suddenly yet more bloody space marines on the forums? Haven't we got enough?
Well like any WH40k player I have space marines coming out the ears so... what better to test ideas out on

Since my drill is still not here (Hello Wayland... any time now guys, really!) I decided I'd experiment a bit with the metal colours I wanted to put onto the ship.
Specifically the hull is warpsbane which to my mind is much like that of the Grey Knights. So having to hand some vallejo paints I mixed up some black grey and natural steel which made for a nice "dark metal" look, then putting a thin layer of natural steel over that again. Finally topping it off with some dry brushed Silver (The silver is in an alcohol base which makes it a bugger to work with tho :/)

I'm not sure what to make of the results so any feedback is welcome

So.. I have no idea how long it's been but new job.. broken internet life all that fun stuff getting in the way
Time for a progress report of which there has been some

I finished up modding the ship to my liking, then I picked up some of the brass eagles from Forgeworld and after some experimentation put a pair onto the ship
Also mounted my own "nova cannon" on the underside of the ship, so far so good

I don't have a huge number of pictures to show off but here is the latest pic of this lil project, on a side note I really /really/ hate how badly cast this miniature is. The more I work with it the more problems I find :/

Update time again kiddies

I've been painting away and revised the paint scheme somewhat.. it's getting near finished I just want to work a bit more on the gold to give it a more aged appearance, then finish off the "small" turrets
