So, entering into the hobby.
Had a demo game, great times.
Got the basics nearly done gluing on the table (Angelius dropped her wings because of careless friend of friend).
Now, however, for my question.
I come from 40k and Fantasy Battles, and, at my local gamingshop (for those systems, there are two flgs), we had some great talent.
As such, I have become accostumed to playing with, and against, very fancily converted models. Heck, very few of the conversions actually started their metallic and plastic lives as the final model they came to represent.
As such, I am wondering.
If I use a different model to base my Carniveans and Scytheans (and probably Typhon and the new fella) on, and only use those models, would people be okay with that? Local shop? Probably, talked to them today, long as I keep it WYSIWYG with weapons and base sizes and use the same "chassis" etc, although one player advised me to be careful with the conversions. Because there are players who would refuse such models to hit the table.
I will be getting, gluing and painting the "normal" models in case of some very strict tournaments showing up etc, but, I will probably convert.
So, I turn to you guys to ask.
If I convert something suitably big (secret plans in motion).
Give it the proper weapons so that there is no mistake in what he fights with.
Put him on the proper base.
Paint him like the rest of my army.
And base him like the rest of my army.
So that there is no issue wether or not he is a Ravagore, a Scythean or a Carnivean.
Would you, personally, be okay with that?
If not, why?

Our group proxies all the time with no issue so a full on conversion is actually a step up in my opinion.
I don't see it ever being a big deal except in a tournament setting. Tournaments get a lot more strict in regards to conversions so I'd ask your local Press Ganger and TOs and see what rules/guidelines they would follow. Assuming of course you'd want to join in on tournies etc.

I play more casual games than tournaments, so I can only speak from the casual perspective. That said, I can't say that I would have a problem with it. As you've mentioned, you're keeping the core weapons (which is pretty much the only thing separating a lot of models that use a similar chassis or core), and the color scheme is the same as the rest of your army, so there is little to no room for confusion as to what you're actually playing. I'm really trying to think of a reason I wouldn't be okay with this (just to exercise my curmudgeonly nature), but it seems like you have your bases covered.

The SR rules themselves have strict rules that all conversions have to be at least 50% the original model released by PP. All conversions also have to be approved by the TOs.
As far as casual games go people generally don't mind as long as you establish it beforehand.
I mean, to be fair, many of the Legion beasts don't even indicate the presence of their ranged weapons on the model. The Ravagore is probably the most obvious example of one that does. Others like the Carnivean don't. Same with Retribution models, I think only 1 of their jacks outwardly indicate the presence of a gun.
That being said, if you take something like a Raek ( the lion type Aliens beast ) and your conversion is a bipdel model you might get some problems, since people might mistake it for a Nepihlim or something.
Seraphim, Angelius etc should have wings and such. Basically follow the core principles of the models. If possible maybe add things iconic to the beasts/faction. The Carnivean chassis for example sports additional legs, just like the Titans have additional arms. They also have prominent spines and whatnot.

Typhon is a model that begs to be converted. He's a truly terrible model; static, goofy pose and physically about the size of a golden retriever compared to Carnivean-bodied beasts.
I'd convert a Typhon first and see what kind of reception you get with your gaming crowd.

Amen. I always felt with fluff like that, Typhon should have been "Extreme"'d and then maybe he would approach the right scale.

Did someone say TYPHON 'XTREME ?
This is pretty much the ultimate custom Typhon model - it was created by typhus22 on the official PP forums, and was basically modeled in CAD and created using a 3d printer. Not in any way tournament legal, and a one of a kind creation, but you want conversion? How about just build your own?

Honestly, I don't know a TO that'd turn that away. While it's not built using the original model, it can't be mistaken for anything but Typhon, which is really the number one concern for organized play.
