The weapons look odd (giant flail w/ small bit of chain, and he's probably carrying a 70lb spear like it weighs nothing), but it's one of the cooler bits of WM illustration I've seen recently. I'm pretty pleased with this new guy (pretty sure it's the same guy who did the new IKRPG cover)

Yes. Did you mean 'I wonder if it is possible to hold a lance [and actually hit somebody with it] that way', if so the answer's probably no. He appears to be carrying it in the overhand style used by the Normans (though his arm is lowered in this picture). It looks a bit heavy but that may be artistic licence as it is smaller than the standard Uhlan lance.

Grimtuff wrote:I'm trying to work out if the Morning Star is his too, can't quite tell from the angle.
It's in his hand, I'm not use if he actually owns it, he could have borrowed it from a friend.

If he can handle what has to be 500 lb of armor the spear is nothing. Hell, the shoulder pads weigh 100 lb each.

Whats my game?

And people still deny that Privateer Press isn't taking cues from World of Warcraft? Just LOOK at those shoulderpads!

Didn't they get a ton of internet-fire from the Retribution Dawnguard Destors and their silly WoWpads?

Is "double epic" the actual correct term for the third iteration of a caster?

If so, I disapprove but I really like this pic! I must be full-on indoctrinated into the PP look now, I didn't even notice the large shoulderpads the first time I saw this pic (which, shame on you Dakka, was from the local warmahordes email group, rather than a post here!)

They're just more "epic" casters. They're not calling them anything extra like "double epic."

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

It's just that there has to be a way to distinguish them, if there's already an "epic" version. "Legendary" would make sense, but I haven't seen it yet... is that the official term?

Privateer Press people have said on their forums that they're still just 'epic' casters.

Also, you can see his thumb sticking up a bit, so he's underhanding the spear. Even if he wasn't he's got magic/steam powered armor on, so he can hold it any way he wants.

The armor worn by Warcasters is magic and enhances their strength IIRC, so yeah he probably wields that lance like it's nothing.

I'm guessing he's so heavy in all that armour that he doesn't need hand free to stay on his horse?

You usually don't need your hands to stay on a horse anyhow, with most of that work being done between correct posture, strong thighs, and a good set of stirrups. All you're doing with your hands is using them to guide the animal, which can be done with your knees instead. That requires a hell of a lot of training for the both of you, but it's still theoretically doable.

Domination just came out. You're going to be waiting at least another six months or so before we start getting whispers of the next Hordes release.

This and the other eeCasters are for next years book releases, which should be a Warmachine one and a Hordes one like they had this year. I'm really curious to see what kind of freaky rules they get as they're said to have more board presence than current casters. eeAsphxyious for example is supposed to be more than one model. Exactly what that entails I don't know.

Apparently the double E warlock would be Thagrosh's main lady Lylyth. Her being a double E...I could enjoy that.

Not theorectically doable, more like essential basic training for kontoi, spear/lance and shield, and horse archery.

It's my understanding that 1, 2, and 3 are what PP uses to distinguish different Epics in shorthand. So Vlad1 is from Prime, Vlad2 is his first Epic and Vlad3 is this beast. They've always made it clear that an Epic character can go Epic again, this is just the first round of them. Warmachine and Hordes are both getting another book in 2012 with these new casters in them, and we know of three for WM and one for Hordes so far.

Vlad has had the market cornered on big shoulder pads since Prime Mk I originally came out. He's one of the first models released for WM and his shoulder pads have always been that way. It's a PP design thing, they like big shoulder pads.

I think the original big shoulder Vlad was released in 2003 and World of Warcraft in 2004.

Hold? Probably.

Hold effectively? Not a chance.

Epic shoulderpads.
