So its been a long time but I finally made the monster trukk battlewagon.
Truth be told its been in its current state for some time now, I have just been too busy and haven't hd the time or internet to post updates with.
Here is an older picture that I took with my phone.
Since this picture was taken I decided to go ahead and build a deff rolla.
I haven't decided on the weapon loadout, thinking about rokkits.
Mainly haven't decided yet because I'm not quite sure how I will model them and where they will be on the vehicle.
I will try to post picks in a day or two.

So its been a couple days but I finally got to take pics.
Going to dallas next weekend, gonna check out a GW store or two and maybe pick up some ork stuff for ideas, bits and weapons. My orks are all the AoBR set, so I'm limited in bits.
I have more pics in my gallery of my monster trukk-battlewagon, and my trukk.
C&C welcome and appreciated

I would suggest cutting off the truck cab entirely and scrap building one. It's far too Rounded and perfect to have been built by an Ork.
Take the time to Put Plates pretty much everywhere there is a curve.

What's going on on the sides there? Looks like you took multiple colors of sticky notes and put em on there? Get either plasticard or thick card to make your plates. Get the hang of making rivets!

Rivets, rivets rivets. You want smaller pieces of plastic as well. Imagine an ork actually hammering it into place. It's unlikely to be huge and ungainly.

I would also give that a full black spray and start the painting from scratch once you've finished building it.

Sorry all who saw this post prior to my editting
My wife thinks the things I do are the best thing ever, but I knew they needed work, thus I posted on here.
What is the best way to make rivets? I figured I needed rivets but am not sure quite how to make them.
I probably will respray the whole thing black and start the paint from scratch.
I think I have decided the weapon loadout for the wagon. I got the dredd and kans kits and am planning on using the big shootas and maybe a rokkit. I have been reading all I can bout the kan weapons and am thinking 2 KMBs and 1 rokkit, as they have the same range but am wanting to magnetize them so I can swap out weapons if I want to.
Any ideas?
C&C welcome and thanks

Making the rivets depends on what tools you've got - easiest is plastic rod (or small sprue) and an xacto knife with a new blade - slice and presto, rivets. Course, you may want to do this into a box as occasionally you will shoot one across the room.

Haven't worked on the wagon until a few hours ago
Got myself the dread and kanz kits and have been working on those
The kanz are definately one of my favorite kits so far
Sadly no I'm not aiming for the gigantic dumptruck look but if I could find one as a reasoanbly priced model that would make a great vehicle to loot
I did decide that blitz is right about the cab and have begun to slap on some plates to ork the body up
I also found that I have a couple of smallish plastic rods to slice for rivets even though I'm not the biggest fan of rivets. You would think that welding would be more common than it seems to be, but eh what do I know.
Will be posting pics soon...hopefully

Ok so been working too dang much and haven't done any modeling can't even paint my killa kanz as I ran out of spray primer. I had just enough to barely dust their parts. I got enough on just one KMB and one ccw arm. Good news is got a long weekend coming so I plan on working on some modeling and painting.
On the subject of rivets, why does everybody think everything needs them? Don't meks supposedly work with the burna boys and their cuttun torches? Wouldn't it make sense that they could do some rough welding or more of melting stuff together?
Oh well just some thoughts on the matter

I think its the whole fluff/retro future thing - that plus everything from GW dats orky has rivets.

It's been some time since my last post, but I have gotten some more work done. I got a rokkit launcha mounted on the side sponson-like. I still don't feel the same about rivets...but I will probably try to make some anyways. I uploaded pics to my gallery last time I made some progress. I do plan to put up some more pics later. Had some magnet issues between my kanz and dread...had some problems with magnets being reversed. Was a pain in the bum, but I got them to do what I wanted. Well more later, hopefully.

I agree that the shape is too recognizable as-is, but you don't have to scrap it just yet, you just have to disguise it more.

For a project like your's, don't bother punching individual rivets as that will take way to long.

Head to hobby lobby and buy one of these for 4 bucks.

http://shop.hobbylobby.com/assets/item/regular/536862.jpg

http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/hand-punch-circle-536862/

You can use it as is, or file the point to make more rounded rivets.

Then collect all the thin blister pack plastic you can find. This can come from miniatures, food packaging, toy packs, anything that has that thin clear plastic. You can even use the corners of the blister packs to curve over the edges of your vehicle.

Cut it into suitably orky shapes, strips, etc. Then using the puncher, don't punch the rivets out, just press the plastic gently with the puncher to emboss the shape of rivets.

Once all your armor plates are ready, glue them all over the truck, including the doors and the sides of the wheels. You can try plastic glue, but you will probably have to use super glue.

Here's two post-apoc cars that use rivets as described above. They aren't ork vehicles, but it gets the idea across.

This car used the puncher before I filed down the point. The rivets are larger and flatter on top

This car used the pucher after I filed down the point, the rivets are much rounder.

More pics and in-progress shots here:

After you've done all your work, you're going to want to completely repaint the car in black and use heavy drybrushing to bring back the colors you want.

That pic is fairly old I have more rescent pics in the gallery...I've been looking for a hole punch like that and have been unable to find one I liked. I think I might take that pic to the local hobby lobby and have them show me where to find it in the store.
I know I keep saying it, but I'll try to post pics soon.
It's a pain for me to upload pics as my internet and camera are both on my phone.
Well I shall update more whenever I can, until then check out my gallery.

Ask for a 1/16 inch round hole punch. You can use it to punch rivets out, but I can't speak highly enough about the embossing method. I have one modified for embossing and one unmodified for punching out individual rivets.

As Ruff points out Fiskars makes virtually the same thing for near the same cost (maybe a touch more) if you don't have a hobby lobby around, there is probably somewhere carrying the Fiskars version.

Thanks for the info guys, but modeling purchase(s) I have been planning just got forced on hold. I just tried to pull out onto the highway to go to work and got into an accident. I'm fine ane the other driver is too, his jeep deff-rolla'd the hood of my car, failed his dangerous terrain roll, and was immobilized onto his roof. All it really did to my car was dent my hood and break my hedlight/turn signal. Hopefully I can fix it soon as I work 30 minutes from where I live...but I think I may actually get some modeling done today and tommorrow. I hope. Updates later guys

Well once again it has been a while. I fixed the car from the accident, then, two weeks later, it rolled over 200k miles. Then it broke down, tried all the minor things I could, so here in a bit I'm gonna try takin some stuff apart so I can hopefully get it running.

Well even with getting effed over at work and the car trouble, I have gotten some modeling done. I bought a hole punch for mah rivets for the wagon. Even had a systm down where my wife punched the rivets, while I glued them on. Got most of the beast done riveting. Modded a rokkit launcha from the dread kit for one of the weapon, which is still useable for the dread if necessary. Gonna post some pics later, hopefully, as I would like to know if I put enough rivets, or if it needs more/less.

I'm also waiting on a AoBR deffkopta and a BW bigshoota gunner from ebay. My plan is to chop the kopta into a buggy, roughly folloing one of the tutorials I saw on here. The big shoot gunner I'm planning on making a cupola/turret on the roof of the wagon. Not really decided if I wanna put anything else on the wagon, cause its already got the rolla, not sure it "needs" anything else.

Also got my wife an IG sentinel, primered, but still on the sprue as I haven't decided if it should be armoured or scout as they bot seem to be useful. I'm thnking armoured as I'm thinking of making a mech vet list.

Well more layer hopefully, C&C welcome and appreciated!!

So I took pics of my progress did notice that I did more riveting than I thought I did. Apparently I only have to do one of the running boards and maybe a few other places. Visible in one of the pics is the magnet for the rokkit luncha, tho the polarity is set so I can swap in the weapons for my dread/kans, so I could also have it as a big shoota mount.

Having been bored, watching youtube the other night I have kind of decided on my dreads name...Trogdor. I'm also thinking of orking up the name strongbad, to call my KFF big mek.

I'm also realizing that I need to take pics of the rest of my 40k stuff. My SM army, my nids nd some terrain I have built. That alone may be a task and a half tho. Especially with just using my phone, being as it is my only source of internet, and it likes to make things frustrating.

Well enough talk here's the pics, which wil also be uploaded to my gallery shortly as well. C&C welcome and apprecited

Wow, I'm very much impressed! It's so much better right now, although you could do something about the tires.. I'd put some pistons here and there to bring it to an ever higher level (made from the smae stuff you made your rivets). And guns! It needs more Dakkaa!

Getting closer that's for sure.

I think what Feluca is getting at is the tires look too humany...

Armor plates on the tires like the Trukk / BW Kits is an easy way to go.

I would personally replace them with that sized wagon wheels with a bike chain, to make it look like a trakk, but still ramshakle and orky.

Looks great!

I agree with the folks above, that something like a riveted cap over the end of the tires would go a long way toward un-huemy-ing the truck. You may have to use epoxy or a rubberized superglue to make it stick though, I'm not sure.

Asside from that, I'd say, just toss more rivets on the plates at the bottom of the chassis, the standing platforms and the nuts on the side of the roller, and this baby is ready for paint!

I have been trying to decide what I should do to the wheels. I was thinking about making some blades/spikes on a hubcap type of thing. For the actual tires I've been thig about puting some patches or armor plates on them so make it look more orkish and looted. I could probably try messing ith some greenstuff to that end but my GS fu is not very strong. I'm not sure when I'm gonna get more work done on the wagon. I sorted through the pics on my phone and now I realized I'm gonna have to rivet up my trukk now. Luckily for me its smaller than the monster truck, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Well I'm almost to work...I shall update whenever I make more progress.

Happy Friday!! I have been thinking about what to do to orkify my tires...I have some ideas, but haven't embarked upon them yet. I'm thinking about spikes, ptaches and some plates. I'm looking through the gallery for some ideas to loot. I'm not really finding anything greatly inspiring, but I'm also about to do a google search and see what else I can find. If any of you have any suggestions feel free to show them. I'm also planning on finishing up the rivets, so expect an update in a couple days.
