Summary
This army is designed to face GK and marine flavors. In the local tourney scene, there are usually 20 MEQ players and 2-3 xenos.

I went with the warlock suicide squad instead of two bare fire prisms as I think they deliver more against psyriflemen and parking lots. They have the star engines as they need to get closer than dragons do in order to be effective (as they must assault)

There are a total of 8 AV 12 vehicles, which is enough in a 1750 game to dilute the enemy firepower.

Eldrad will be riding with avengers His job will be to send 2 dragons/warlocks upstream a turn to destroy enemy static firepower.

As I expect to see at least 1 dragowing and 1 set of Twolves I went with a nightspinner to slow them down. I also expect it to do well if I see any scarab farms.

Any suggestions or critiques are welcome.

Very very very low in the way of fire power. On the S Cannons you are telling me you WANT your troops to be within 24" of GK or other nasties on your MSU DA serpents?

If you drop the Warlock serpent/unit and all the stones/cannons, as well as the holofield on the nightspinner you can fit in two Holofielded Prisms with a little room to spare.

Also you are kinda hurtin at 3 troops, but with 3 packs of dragons at 1750 you can't really get around that.

Thanks for the input BlueDagger.

I don't have the 2 prisms painted at this time, and I don't play with unpainted models unless absolutely necessary. At best I could squeeze out 1 more prism before saturday.

The reason I gave 3 of the serpents the cannons was for option of using them. I expect to face between 1/3 to 1/2 GK, but in the other games the underslung might prove worthwhile. I'm open to dropping them for exarchs or other options.

I would also be open to dropping the spirit stones if a good arguement can be made for for the points elsewhere.

You bring up a good point on the holo filed for the nightspinner. As I can keep it out of sight, the holo-filed might not buy me as much. What could I spend those 35 points on? Exarch upgrades for the dragons? 3 more underslung cannons? A vyper?

If the Spinner will be your sole heavy then I'd be 100% sure to take Holos and stones on it. It's going to get pounded like a german whore. It's your only real mass wounding vehicle.

What other models do you have painted up and I may be able to help ya flesh it out a bit more?

Here is something I'm considering. I can strip my serpents stones and underslung off, and downgrade the EML to a SC, then I'll have enough for a bare bones prism. I'll also need to drop the holofield on the spinner

That's 9 tanks at 1750, with 4 vehicle killing suicide units, and utility for twolves or draigowing, and one prism for horde or vehicles. Eldrad can guide the prism while fortuning 2 suicide serpents

It really won't end well, but I wish ya luck. The warlocks on foot won't really do much since they will suffer the same issue as all other eldar melee. With 4 vehicles suicides your banking on 3-4 AV 13-14. Thunderwolves and greyknights pallys aren't effected by locks or dragons and to pop rhinos you have plenty of str 6. So now you are looking to scatters andtwo blasts to kill infantry. Of which your two blasts will be your weakest tanks.

Lost in the warp while searching for a new codex

Lately with all the FnP nonsens going around I have been starting to try out units of 10 FDs. While I usually play at 2k and thus have more room for it You might want to consider something like this for 1750pts. Just 3 Troops which is pretty meh but still doable.

HQ:
Eldrad = 210

Troops:410
5xDA = 60
Serpent (Scatter) = 115

5xDA = 60
Serpent (Scatter) = 115

5xDA = 60

Heavy: 420

Prism = 115

Prism = 115

Falcon (Stones, Holo, BL) = 190

Elites:710
10xFDs = 160
Serpent (Cannon) = 100

10xFDs = 160
Serpent (Cannon) = 100

5xFDs = 80
Serpent (Stones, Cannon) = 110

I was debating that. Here is my quandary. I only own 19 fire dragon models. While I could filed a squad of banshees in for the 3rd eliete slot, there is not enough to go around.

As I mentioned, I can only get one more fire prism ready, so I'm also limited there.

I am a bit worried about the lack of troops. Ill post the battle reports to let you know how they turn out.

This is what I currently have painted and ready to go in my Eldar collection. A lot of these are holdover from 3rd edition.
* 8 Serpents
* 1 Nightspinner
* 1 Fire Prism
* 19 Fire Dragons
* 18 Avengers
* 10 Banshees (including Exarch with Executioner)
* 24 Guardians w/2 heavy weapons platforms
* 13 Warlocks with witchblades/spears
* 8 Warlocks on jetbikes (custom models I made from fantasy high/dark elves)
* 6 Scorpions
* 20 Pathfinders
* 7 Warp Spiders
* Avatar
* Eldard
* Fuegan
* Maugan Ra
* Exarch
* 2 Vyper Jetbikes with magnatized weapons
* 8 Wraithguard
* 5 Dark Reapers

I've tried 10 Fire Dragons several times and found it to be.. lacking. 10 shots with very short range, 7 hit, 5-6 wound, and now you hope they don't have cover or invul saves. The response fire will do a lot more damage to the Dragons Unit. I've found Nightspinners to be immensely more valuable combating 2+ armor and FNP thanks to doom + rending then DT tests. They get their job done no matter where the opponent is on the board and rarely risk themselves doing it.

If you can get the other prism you were talking about painting done up in time I'd go with:

Eldrad

2x 5 Fire Dragons + Wave Serpent w/ TL SL

1x 5 DA + Wave Serpent w/ TL SL
1x 5 DA + Wave Serpent w/ TL EML
1x 10 Guardians w/ SL + Warlock w/ Embolden + Wave Serpent w/ TL EML
1x 10 Guardians w/ SL + Warlock w/ Embolden

2x Fire Prism w/ Holofields
1x Night Spinner

This is a defensive list, do not go dashing at your opponent with anything but the fire Dragons. If facing a serious Alpha strike weigh if you have enough LOS blocking to weather the storm otherwise go full reserves. use the Guardians on foot to camp your objecting or as bait on the other side of the board from your night spinner. Hide your NS as much as possible, while keeping Eldrad with your two prisms to double guide (after double fortune for the Dragon dash). Eldrad goes with the Guardian serpent if that wasn't clear to make his powers nearly 100% unfailable, act as a meat shield if his serpent gets popped, and provide a ghetto guide/doom/fortune bladestorm if volume wounds are desperately needed. I'd replace the 10 Guardians on foot with a 4 GJB + Warlock layout but you don't look to have any.

I converted all my jetbikes into Warlocks. I still have the guardian riders.
Also that 1 prism includes the one I've been frantically working on today between work calls. So I would only have a total of 1 prism and 1 spinner for Saturday.

Hmmm......Its interesting that your suggesting guardians with a serpent sitting next to them. If an enemy gets close, they can just hop in and fly away. Thats something I considered many times as an option, but its costs ~40 points more per squad and in return you get a BS 3 heavy weapon.....still its worth considering.

Thanks again for the input all. You have given me a lot to consider.

Naw I actually keep the guardians in the Serpent unless swarm fire is needed. There has been countless times that Eldrad's Serpent has been shot down (since everyone hates him) but the pack of guardians has enough cheap fodder that between fortune and cover saves they become pesky cockroaches. Late game where you know there will be no risk of CC you can dump the guardians out to an objective and fly forward with just eldrad having little fear of the squad moving.

With only one Prism and One Spinner you are in a bit of a pickle on your heavy choices. I can't really make a solid recommendation there except to take it and use the points from the other prism on a Serpent for your 2nd pack of guardians and holo for the spinner. Keep that Prism glued to Eldrad's Serpent like white on rice.

So I went with the original list, and did well. I won 2 out of 3 games, and will post the results later

Wll, if you are facing a 10 man squad of Paladins then you really should have Guide one squad of the FDs making them hit roughly 9 times and with doom youd be generating roughly 8 wounds (more really). Assuming you manage to tank shock them out of terrain (and they dont fail the morale check) the FDs will do a number on thier 5++ saves. That said, the FDs are very likely to get badly shot up the next turn but sometimes it can be mitigated by good placement of the serpents.

Great reports all around. You listed MVPs but I'm curious how you felt some other units performed:

5 man FD squads. Do you feel 5 were enough in each squad? After this summer/fall worth of tourneys, I was constantly let down by the 5 man squads and felt I needed 7-8 per squad.

Warlocks. They seemed to work exactly as conceived in Game 1. I thought they would have went after the Monolith in Game 3, but it can be difficult to get positioning some times. How did you like them in an all comers list.

Nightspinner. Another convert. I run only 1 and I really like this tank. So many people write it off (including myself) until they actually field it. Great tank and I agree Holofields are too pricey for it.

Eldrad. Every says he's a must take, but would you consider a basic Farseer? It appeared that him casting 2 x Fortune was the biggest selling point for him (you may have cast 3 powers consistently, but I didn't catch it). It appeared you didn't utilize Divination either. Just interested to see if 2 x Farseers or 1 x Farseer/1 x Autarch would be a viable option.

Thanks for posting the armylist and then the battle reports showing how things worked out on the tabletop. Great reads all around.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
