much better pictures
Just a pointer though - The point of the blog is so that you can keep posting new pictures to the same thread.
That said, I would suggest first thinning your paints, and working on your basecoating technique. Your going to want to do 2-3 different coats of very thin paint on the model. Do the first coat with all brush strokes going down, and a second with all strokes going horizontal. Each coat will cover successively more, and will look better. On each coat, make the strokes go in the same direction.

Ok - Brother - you seem very keen - and that in itself is harder a attribute than most to find - be it Painting Skill or $$$. So Kudos for that.
I will give you some advice - however my Painting skills are by far less than most.
Thin your paints a Tad. Thicker coats mean less effort - but can make for some streaky results.
Possibly buy just 1 or 2 different coloured paints - I understand you are in a Fiscally unsound position - but hey - give it a go.
The Red looks good - but try to do the backs of the knees in Black - looks more like separate pieces of Armour that way (Kind of Stormtrooperish)
Get some Waterbased Glue - you know - the white stuff Kids eat in Primary School - place it on the Bases thinly - then sprinkle Dirt on them. Tidy with your finger(Ie Wipe around the Base) - then paint the sides Green or Black - this simple addition can REALLY improve the overall Models appearance.
But it's good to see you getting into the Hobby - and making some real progress.
All the Best Old Bean - i will keep watching!

Some history on the Dragons of Redemption.
I do not intend this to fit in the Warhammer 40k plot or anything. I just did it for the hell of it.
Chapter Master; Talon.
Chapter world; Dragonsreach.
Current Status; Under Construction after, fighting Tau forces.
Chapter command; Talon. 5 Dragon guard.
1st company; 2 tactical squads. 1 Dreadnought. 1 commander.
2nd company; 2 assault squads. 2 tactical squads.
3rd company; 2 Rhinos.
Rest of the Companies have been branded Renegades after, Chavius Vile betrayed the Chapter master Talon. The Dragons of redemption have decided not to rebuild the rest of the companies because, they will find no Honor is doing so.
Chavius vile was highly exposed to the Chaos gods. Chavius vile took Interest in collecting "relics" from fallen daemons and other vile creatures. One day Talon was weak his body had been penetrated by many shots from a Tau battlesuit. Chavius vile thought now was the time to strike. He rounded the battle brothers that followed him. He betrayed Talon and the rest of the Dragons of Redemption. The Tau was caught in a mass firefight been the Loyalists and the Renegades. The Loyalists did not Full back and they did not surrender although, out numbered by the huge amount of renegades. Chavius could see there was no fault in their defensive line. He retreated into the mist of the battlefield, they disappeared like ghosts. Talon knew his men couldn't fight on so he also retreated back to the fleet in orbit. To this day Talon is still looking for Chavius and his band of Renegades...

Not a bad effort, it's obvious you're keen to get into the hobby!
Just a few tips, but you may want to try basecoating with a darker colour (either black primer or mechrite red) and build up to say blood red with a blazing orange highlight. Ditto with the white, though this usually takes a lot more building up to achieve - I usually start with codex grey and then work up to white, sometimes using as many as 30 layers!
Only other pointer I can think of is the sand on the bases - going over it with paint works wonders, just water it down at first or you'll be there for ages.

I won't bother giving painting tips, enough have been given already and its not my way. As far as what to buy next, that'd depend on your budget: If you are'nt limited by cash flow I'd try and pick up a Contemptor pattern dreadnaught, simply to add a Unique relic to your army, which you have developed a thoughtful history for. (Perhaps all the damage Talon took from the Tau resulted in the honour of being encased in a Dreadnaught). I'd also get started on some Rhinos.
If Cash is limited, you can score some great deals on EBay,
and build up your army quickly and cheaply. Good luck!
