Subject: Orcs n Goblins VS Wood Elves - What should I expect?
|

Commanding Orc Boss
|
I am pitting my Orcs and Goblins horde against some pesky Wood Elves ( ) in a couple of days and I am wondering what I might expect from my opponent.
So happens it is the first time I play against them so I am totally in the dark. I expect them to be a shooty army (hate ) but i am uncertain.
Any input on this, as well as proposals as to how I might best deal with them, would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Well, first off the Wood elf heavy hitters are flammable (Treekin, Treeman), so a nice block of Black orks with a flaming banner is a good choice. Doom divers are also great against WE (they have a lot of small, fast, fragile but hard to hit with BS shooting units). Make sure you have access to a good magic missile spell.
Close in fast, and get into combat asap. Lots of fast units like chariots and cavalry are also great to have.

Expect to win.
Ok, not always, but wood elves are pretty weak right now. Expect move and shoot w/o penalty, S4 longbows at short range, very tough treekin and very little RnF.

Forest spirits (dryads and Treekin) will tear any non flaming orcs a new one. Bog these units down with busses of goblins

Wood Elves struggle against big blocks and static combat res.
Night gobins with nets and shields can go toe to toe with dryads (6 wide, dryads do ~4 wounds when netted, goblings have 3 ranks, standard and music, winning with musician on average).
Blocks of 40 or so night goblins in bus formation with nets, blocks of about 30 orcs. Either of these can hold up against anything the wood elves can bring in the front.
Add in 2x doom divers and 2x rock lobbas. Take a decent amount of magic, and keep everything in range of general and BSB. Go heavy on high point models if you need keep a smaller foot print (like big block of trolls), though you can safely put black orcs out of the bubble thanks to ItP.
Then just cover your flanks. Wood Elves can't win to the front.
Feel free to stand off and blast with magic and warmachines. Sprinkle in fanatics, though I'd skip manglers, too easy to shoot to death.
