Models are great, bases are awful A really good way of basing models is using spices - I use pepper but if you want the red then you could go with paprika or chili powder - that way you don't even need to paint the bases [except the rims ofc]

I like the metal effects, bases aren't awful. Given a layers of paint and some highlighting on them you could turn it into an ashen/dirt base with texture.

Great lighting effects too

As Melcavuk says, you can paint the sand black and create an ashen wasteland.

I love the OSL and the green crystals on the bases. I think you can improve the bases by adding sand to the gaps, painting it, and perhaps add some bits here and there or some static grass.
