I'm from the future. The future of space

I bought these scouts when they first came out and figured it was time to dig them out and paint them up. The latest revision of Kings of War was good enough to get me interested in playing the game and I wanted to paint the elves up fast to see if I'd enjoy painting a whole army of them.

They were speed painted. Base coat and then a wash of 50/50 matte medium and water with some black, brown and a touch of green ink added.

I went with odd colours for the weapons as I wanted to break up the drab appearance that a washed metallic gives. I also decided to paint their bases like a southern Mediterrainian coastline to enhance the bronze age look.

My conclusion after painting them is that I will be buying more Mantic elves. They are covered in detail, but the detail is very shallow. So wash techniques are going to be my go to tools for a nice quick army.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

They look really great for speed painted minis, your wash technique has worked well. The bases bring the needed contrast to the figs with the lighter colors.

The mantic ranges seem to respond well to this kind of painting with washes as my experiments with ghouls worked ok too.

I looking forward for your next additions to this army.

I was worried after I had base coated them that the detail was going to be too shallow to do anything with. I was pleasantly surprised when all the detail popped with the wash. I can see why Mantic paired up with Army Painter as I'm sure their products would give a similar result.

I think I spent almost as much time basing as I did painting. At first I was going to do a dark grey rock with some mixed dark flock. Then I tried a reddish brown on a couple and finally did them all in the sand and used my earth blend flock. I was concerned after my first two choices because they seemed pretty dark and muddy without the lighter bases.
