Fellow warriors I come in dire need of assistance. Lately ive been playing lots of lizardmen and they have been eating my units like a light snack. Mainly due to the presence of two units
Ancient steggy with blow pipes
30 temple guard with life slann fully equipped with amazing marks or whatever they are.
How do you deal with these units? In one game the steg took out 1250 pts of my army alone and in another the temple killed a unit of 30 big uns and 40 ngs along with 25 savage.
My initial thought was war machines but they had little or no effect due to the slann and my raknarok has been gunned down every time by the steggy
Please help deal with these bothersome units
Best regards,
Gromsnik

Gonna assume you're O&G
Ancient Steg is war machine bait. Doom Divers and rock lobba's tear them apart for cost. Rock you'll need to hit with the hole, but they're pretty big targets.
Banner of Eternal flame generic magic item makes your attacks flaming and negates any Life magic regeneration.
There are various units you can use to fight the TG, but they need that banner. What would be realy sick is you stick a buffed warboss and a banner bearer with the above in a big unit of trolls. Show them real regeneration (not to mention 2 ranks of 3 attacks and 1 rank of stomp at Str 5). You can do a wave of flaming vomit attacks that auto hits with no armor save, which hurts.

Yes I am OnG sorry I didn't mention that and I will try this but lizardmen have a few cheap flaming weps plus the banner won't this severely reduce this effectiveness?

The real key to beating a Life Temple Guard Bunker is shutting down his magic phase.
Make absolutly sure you dispell Flesh to Stone, and Throne of Vines if you can. If he doesn't have those up then he will be much less durable. Throne of Vines isn't required to dispell, but it sure helps keep his buffs on a more managable level. It doesn't matter that he can regrow them if you kill faster then they get brought back.
If his temple guard arn't buffed, they suffer the same disadvantages other elite troops have. getting swarmed. They are Stubborn Cold Blooded Ld9 so they arn't going to break. you will have to kill them, not just break them, but you have plenty of attacks to do it as orks.

Black orcs might beat naked TG for cost, but in a Life Slann group they don't. You'll need a lot. You figure he's going to have at least 4 ranks and 10-20+ TG. You definately want to stay steadfast against him. And that group has like what, 800pts in it?
But get a Lord in there and flaming banner.

Since most Slann are BSB (In my experience anyway) if you can make that unit break you got a ton of points in the bag

it is highly unlikely they will break, at least while there are any TG left. They take the lowest of 3D6 for their Ld9 roll, and they can reroll it if they need to.
Kill them faster then the frog can heal them. thats the only way to do it.

30 Black Orcs with the flaming banner, Stunty bashing Axe are solid. In the event he gets off the Flesh to Stone great weapons still work.
Move a mangler squid using hand of gork is also fun, as is just stomping the unit with foot. if you are worried about regen still, using a ruby ring of ruin first. Ere we go can be devastating.

I think relying on spells or dispeling when you're an O&G facing a Slann is a bit iffy. Especially if he's sitting on vines.

Yea Multiple smaller units of (25-30) night goblins with 3 fanatics apiece make short work of lizards.

Its just a level 4. If I have a level 4 I never really have trouble dispelling, unless he gets IF off.
This isn't Kairos were talking about here. He isn't rocking a +6 to cast.

Yah but he likely has +1 dice per cast, which is kind of like +4 and +D6 (though not as safe since it leads to miscasts). And with Life, he can afford to throw crazy dice and not worry about miscasts.

Make sure your opponent doesn't forget range and movement modifiers for his steggadons shooting.
Massed firepower, backed up with fanatics and manglers is a nightmare for any infantry to advance into.
2x stone throwers, 2x doom divers, and 4 or so bolt throwers should make a pretty good dent in the lizards advance.
Here's what I used to do.
Deploy 8-10 warmachines across my front line.
Behind this, deploy 5 blocks of night goblins with 1-3 fanatics each. Behind this, two blocks of orcs, and a block of black orcs.
Machines plunk away, with my wizards supporting from the black orc unit.
When the enemy closes in, I fling fanatics through machines into the enemy. It's really tough to wound the T7 machine with the fanatic, so the machine is usually alive to take the charge.
The reduced enemy then over-runs or gets charged by the goblin blocks, who hold them up as I try and turn the flank. If/When the goblins break, the orcs are the 3rd line to hit the reduced enemy unit again.
Depending on points, you can often squeeze in some chariots/savage cav or squig herds for a little more hitting power.
It works out to be pretty damn effective, but your fairly static until your machines start dying.

He's only safe against miscasts if Throne gets up, and he isn't likely to toss more then 2-3 dice at it because he's saving them for the spells that actually matter.

I don't know how he'll play, but I would suggest throwing everything and the kitchen sink at throne, get a IF, cupped hands it, and thereafter you got a built-in cupped. You don't need regen the first round anyway, likely.

And then he dispells throne on his turn. then it becomes a cycle of you getting nothing but throne off.
In my experience, no one throws more then 2-3 dice at Throne.

very rare, but I see a WE player do it for his treekin for flesh to stone all the time.

Throne works if you I-Force it.
But no one throws buckets of dice at the Throne because it is SO simple to dispell in the next magic phase

Yeah, you will certaintly toss tons of dice at Flesh to Stone, but not at Throne of Vines.
and why is he putting Flesh to Stone on his Tree Kin? arn't they T6 already?

t5 Treekin. He tosses out a lot(4-5) of throne, to make you consider that if you don't stop this it could be a T9 model or you could save your dice so to stop the Flesh to Stone.

That depends on how many dice there are all together. If he's only got 3-4 left I'll dispell Flesh to Stone. If he's got a full house of dice then I might dispell Vines because it will nerf all his other buffs.
