Right I'm dead set on making a troll army fronted by throgg. at this stage i'm thinking

for the HQ i think this list needs some crazy powerful magic, but tough as nails as well.

so do i go for a daemon prince magically pimped up?
or do i get a sorceror lord and mount him on something nasty or hide him in a unit?

i would love to mount him on a dragon it would fit beautifully with the theme of the army, but is it too much? and would i end up filling the army points just to justify keeping the dragon?

I also run Throgg and I have been running a Kitted Chaos Lord on Manticore. He has done fairly well and is not cookie cutter MOT

DP I think is your least effective spell caster. At least cost-effective. He's best used flying in and killing stuff, not staying with your troops and casting spells.

The Disk Sorceror is certaintly effective, if it is kinda overdone.

Dragons are not very good in the current meta because of Cannons and the 8th ed LoS rules. he will always be able to be targeted pretty much.

You also NEED a BSB so you can reroll your Ld tests.


Disk Sorceror and an Exalted Hero BSB.

Stick a charmed shield on that disk build and your good to go!

cheers guys, its a shame bout the dragon not being great.. was gona stick the sorceror lord from the manticor kit on a forgeworld carmine dragon... which i may still do for my shelf instead of the gaming table.

I am not against going with what is popular, i'll take a disk build if I have to, but would love to have the sorceror riding a big nasty, how would a manticore work? or is it just unneccessary as the sorceror will be sat at the back casting anyway?

Sorcerors are great when they are mobile, which a Dragon or Disk or anything with Fly does well.

Then you add in cannons which can outright kill a monster you are riding unless it has some sort of regen/ward save. Neither the Dragon or Manticore has this.

The Disk is a monstrous beast and as such isn't killable specifically. Its the Sorceror who's taking the hits and he has a 3+ ward.


Its mostly to avoid losing a huge chunk of points(Dragons are expensive) and your wizards mobility to missile fire. hence why the untargetable Disk is a better choice of mount.

Swap Word of Agony for stream of corruption

Swapthe enchanted shield for a charmed shield. it saves 10 points, gives you a chance to ignore that first hit which if your opponent has a cannon ball i can tell you now will probably be a cannonball. but it does reduce your armour save by one which i think is worth it.

No as you have to use the points listed from our book not the BRB

That cost 385 he is quite tough. 2+ armor 3+ ward and super mobile.

If anything add stream or roar.

Little bit late to this one, but I personally love running a fighty Chaos Lord in my Troll army, but this is largely in part to the LD 9.

Gives him an awesome 1+/4+ save and he dishes out 7 str 6 attacks, as well as 2 str 5 from the Jugger. I usually run a lvl 2 on disc along side him and it tends to work well enough.

Characters in WoC armies are generally very good, although I tend to skimp on mine! A dragon can be awesome!

Just keep in mind that your 6 ogres can only take on light targets... the trolls need to do the heavy lifting, and if they're got the banner of eternal flame it helps to have some magic on your side to target that unit (or buff your own that has to face it).

Daemon princes are also good! I tend to run mine as a level 1 with third eye of tzeentch with perhaps bloodcurdling roar OR stream of corruption.
