I wanted to come up with Metal Horde army and this is what i came up with:

HQ
Nemesor

RQ
Lord - MSS, RO
Lord - MSS, RO
Lord - MSS, RO

Troops
4 X 20 Warriors

Elite
Stalker - Heat Ray

Heavy
Monolith

1995 / 2000

Obviously this based on having the enemy come to you and shoot the crap out of him on the way, the stalker helps twin link every one, the monolith is there to draw fire and provide a little mobility if needed, and 3 block of warriors gets a lord with MSS, RO and one gets Nemesor who has an RO making them very hard to get rid of. Also gives the possibilty of 160 Twin-Linked gauss shots provided a unit gets with range and has been hit by the stalker.

Other ideas were to replace the monolith with 2 Anni. Barges and/or replace the 4 X 20 warriors with 6 X 10 Immortals.

Thoughts?

I see what you're trying to do, but...

That many warriors should be supported by Ghost Arks, and S4 shooting is bad.

Sure, they don't die (until they're swept), but S4 shooting is super stinky. Needs more versatility. Crypteks would help, of almost any flavour.

I think the 6x10 immortals would work better for this...

So would you go with the gauss blasters or tesla carbines?

I would think tesla carbines just for the possibility of more damage.

I think 3 groups with Gauss blasters, and 3 groups with tesla...

That way you can shoot vehicles with the blasters, and infantry with the tesla.

If you don't want to mix, and have all the units the same, go for tesla.

The land of cotton.

I've tried Tesla on Immortals and like it. Since they are Assault 1 instead of Rapid Fire, you can always get a 24" shot when moving and that is a big plus. Makes them a lot more useful when they have to hoof it to get to an objective, etc.

I think warriors are viable - you just need something more. Some high-strength shooting, be it from crypteks or whatnot. But massed Gauss hasn't failed me yet.
Also, you could try having a Phaeron Overlord or two. Making those 20-blobs relentless is nice.
Also, you could mix Warriors and Immortals too. It's not necessarily one or the other.

Yes! Someone is thinking about a silver tide! Let's discuss:

I hate Warriors in comparison to Immortals. Particularly in large numbers, I think that 3+ vs the 4+ save will make all the difference in large numbers. As well, the mobility is all-important when footslogging up the table. Additionally, I love the idea of TLing a ton of Tesla shots (more re-rolls = more potential to roll 6s). What about something like this?

10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
1x Lord w/ MSS, Rezorb
... points = 250

10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
1x Lord w/ MSS, Rezorb
... points = 250

10x Immortals w/ Tesla Carbines
1x Lord w/ MSS, Rezorb
... points = 250

10x Immortals w/ Gauss Blasters
1x Overlord w/ Hyperphase Sword, Phaeron, MSS, Rezorb
1x Harbinger of Destruction w/ Eldritch Staff & Solar Pulse
... points = 390

10x Immortals w/ Gauss Blasters
1x Overlord w/ Warscythe, Phaeron, MSS, Rezorb
1x Harbinger of Destruction w/ Eldritch Staff & Solar Pulse
... points = 390

1x Triach Stalker
... points = 150

1x Triarch Stalker
... points = 150

1x Annihilation Barge w/ Gauss Cannon
... points = 90

1x Annihilation Barge w/ Gauss Cannon
... points = 90

Total points = 2000

Wow I really, really like that list. Warriors and GA's have been the heart of my troop selections, but there's just something splendid about that list. It's got duality and redundancy, and gets it mostly from the troop FOS. Nicely done.

One thing I would change, or suggest rather, as you didn't specify, would be Phase swords (instead of staffs) on a couple of the Tesla Immortal squads, or at least one so you could be a bit more aggressive with it.

Thanks! I think you're right about the Hyperphase Swords. The Staff of Light is great, but killing at range isn't why the Lords are there in the first place. A power weapon probably would be a smart decision.

The Triarch Stalkers each fire 2x 24" Melta shots, and TL the rest of the army, which means another 20x-40x TL Gauss shots. And the 2x Anihilation Barges each fire 4x TL Str 7 Tesla shots, that will average about 1.3 pens & 1.3 glances each round of shooting against AV 11, not counting their 2x Str 5 Gauss shots.

No, I think there's enough anti-tank here...
