Okay, after someone necro'd my Fred Reed thread it got me wondering about this other guy from those good old White Dwarf days, Nigel Stilman, who ran great terrain articles and had his Stilmania series about Bretonnian armies.

Anyone?

No idea.

I've wondered too some times. I liked his articles in the mood of "make a 2000 point army, paint it, put 3 coats of varnish on it, build a custom case yourself, and play always with the same army. When you are able to win against any enemy, you'll know you're a good commander". Kinda extremist, but pretty fun. Also, pretty incompatible with latest GW policies.

Along with Jake Thornton, Andy Chambers, Adrian Wood and so it's people I miss in the magazine.

I'll ask that same question about those other big names in due time, but for now, Nigel.

AFAIK he went back to working in/as an archaeologist.

I believe he still dabbles in the tabletop hobby anyway -- mainly ( exclusively ?) in historical games.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Aye, the "Can't Win a Battle Report to Save His Life" belong to Jervis "I'm still around?" Johnson.

I always liked Adrian Wood's stuff, could just be nostalgia though.

Well, I liked reading him. I guess it's more a nostalgia thing, he and Jake Thornton wrote the first battle report I read. And yes, Thornton won

Mr. Wood is gainfully employed by Black Library, in a graphic design type roll IIRC.

I am told he is also a very good drummer too.

Take a look at Wargames illustrated Magazine, the one Battlefront bought. You see old/ex GW in there all the time.

In one shot, 7 out of 8 people playing some napoleonics game were GW/Ex GW. John Stallard (ex CEO) Jervis, the Perry Twins, Rick Priestly, etc. (probably Stillman)

Then there is battlefront itself, who has some ex GW staff too, like Jason Buyaki sculpts, Adcock, I know Gordon Davidson presented some award at some GT or some such.

I wish I still had my old WDs from the Necromunda-to-a bit past 3rd edition. Every one of those was awesome. I know there is no way G Dub will ever go back to that kind of WD, but man, they would get me to subscribe again thats for sure. heck, maybe I could even be bothered to play on of their games again... instead I'll keep playing Flames of War.
