Subject: CHAINS FOR CONVERSION WORK?

Just a quick question, I was wanting to get some different thickness chains for some conversion work and as I'd be buying off ebay/craft websites and can't really check scale I was wondering what thickness or mm size is a good scale for Warhammer?
Also does anyone have any experience with using small scale chains and have any advice on 'fixing' the chain to stop it moving around?
Thanks in advance

I'm guessing this would work pretty well, but I've never used it. And I couldn't find any hits on Google after about thirty seconds of searching. I'd imagine that a spot of glue at the joints would be enough to hold them still and not upset the detail, but I could be mistaken. Also, a thin strip of green stuff on the backside of the chain attaching to whatever you're pressing it against might work.

I usually get my chain from the jewelry section of the local hobby lobby. I'm not sure if they do online orders though... I don't have any with me at the moment, but my best memory tells me that the chains I use range from 2mm all the way up to 6 or 8mm. When working with them, I hit them with a thin layer of super glue and then shake them in a small tub of sand to score the surface and eliminate the shinny finish left by the glue. Do yourself a favor and get chain with open links. This way, you can pull the links apart with a small set of pliers and add or subtract a link if the distance isn't quite right. You can also drill small holes and thread the chains like a body piercing instead of just gluing the chains where you want them on the model. I'll include a pic or two. The conversions are not great, but the pics will show what I'm talking about with the chains.
That one out to the side stays right where I want it. The plates have no glue at all. The links are just pinched through the small holes I drilled. These chains are likely 3mm.

A small drop of CA glue where links touch will lock them in place. I've found it best to use gravity to your advantage, here, letting the chain hang naturally and only aplying glue to as many links as you want frozen in a straight line. If you tilt the model slightly after each consecutive link is set, you can get some really dynamic curves to trailing chains.

Tips like this are precisely why I signed up to Dakka. Thanks Oadie. How strong are the glue spots? would they stand up to painting and transportation?
