First of all I don't understand why someone would ever get the Discipline "Transcendent Healing". Now if you are unaware Transcendent Healing gives you regenerate 4+ ...but Slann Mage-Priests already have a 4+ ward save from the Shield of the Old Ones? And as it says in the rulebook, "If a model has both a ward save and Regeneration, you must choose which save is used." So that discipline essentially does nothing? I don't understand.

Spells such as Banishment from Lore of Light force sucessful Ward Saves to be re-rolled, whereas Regeneration saves won't be affected; Banishment also isn't a flaming spell, so won't disallow the regen save.
Some weapons or affects will ignore Ward Saves or force re-rolls, but not affect Regeneration.
I do however share the lack of understanding about people taking it, since spells, weapons, and effects that disallow ward saves usually disallow any of type of save altogether, and those that just force re-rolls either force all saves to be re-rolled, or are so few and far between that taking Transcendent Healing on the off chance you might face one just isn't worth it.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Keep in mind the current Lizardman codex was written in 7th edition.
IIRC in 7th you could actually take both a Regen and a Ward save for the same wound.

Lehnsherr has it. In 7th edition, both a regen and a ward could be rolled against the same wound. And while Avatar 720 has pointed out some of the circumstances where having both would be handy (Other Trickster's Shard, for example), it certainly isn't worth the extra 50 points- especially when there's so many crazy good disciplines available otherwise.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.
On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

I see. But I mean if you are really die-in for extra defense on your Slann there is always Higher State of Consciousness, Unfathomable Presence, or Divine Plaque of Protection.

And back in 7th you could take both Higher State and regeneration. "Only magic weapons can hurt me and I get a 4+/4+ save against them, trollololol"
