its one wound which is given to a specific model. That wound then multiplies into D3 or however many wounds it causes.
a single hit can never kill more then a single model is basically what it boils down to.
Saves are also taken before the multiplication is done. So if an Ogre is hit with a Cannonball, but he has Trollguts cast on his unit, he gets a 4+ regen save. If he passes the save, no wounds are caused at all. if he fails, then you roll to see how many wounds are caused to the ogre(maximum of 3 because of his profile) if the cannonball fails to kill him(only does 1-2 wounds) then it stops bouncing because ogres are monstrous infantry and cannonballs will stop if they don't kill them. regular infantry and cavelry can't do this.
