Morning all,

Some of you may remember my P&M Blog, which hasn't seen any updates in a while. I'd reached the point with it where I was posting three or four updates in a row before getting any response, which is always a bit off-putting.

As a result, with a new year upon us, I've decided to move to a Showcase thread rather than a P&M Blog - I'll only be updating when I've got something finished to show, rather than every week or so. Given I'm aiming to manage an average of two completed models a week (or 104 during 2012), there should end up being a fair bit in here by the time we hit 2013.

So, what sort of models are we likely to see showing up in here over the year?

Warmachine - Cygnar, Khador, Mercenaries

Hordes - Circle, Minions, Trollbloods

Iron Kingdoms RPG miniatures

W40k - Imperial Guard, Space Wolves

WHFB - Dwarfs

WAB - Warlord Games Romans

The first model I have for you is a Battle Chaplain for Secrets of the Third Reich. This one is the official miniature produced by West Wind, though my second one (currently WIP) won't be. I tried to do the eyes on this chap, and I'm now firmly of the belief that I really shouldn't in the future...

I've currently got four other SotTR models which are WIP, along with various PP and GW figures. I'm running A Tale of Warmahordes 2012 over on the official Privateer Press forums at the minute, so I'll be posting WM/H stuff when I add it to the completed models threads over there.

Hey Dysartes, nice to see you back in action. For the eyes, I tihnk you either need a finer brush (like 000), or to thisn you black less than you do, that makes it easier to put a small pupil in. I tend to to put a line of amid-colour of the flesh underneath the eye to clean up, helps out lots as well.

Nice work, the camo works well and the base is nice change for the normal woodland bases. It also gives good contrast to the camo.

Eyes are something that requires a lot of practice to get good at. Keep at it and you will get better. Thin paint and good pointed brush are a must, I paint my eyes with size 1 brush with good sharp point.

So, I finished off Griff Oberwald this evening - he's an old sculpt of one of the Blood Bowl Star Players.

It looks like there are a couple of stray bits of static grass (which was still drying at the time of this photo) that I need to tidy off him.

Looks like my next non-GW model may well be a Mantic Forgefather Huscarl, once I figure out how attach the hammer across his back.

The crew (and the Forge Father Huscarl) are still WIP at the minute, but the Organ Gun itself is finished. I'll include it when I picture the crew, just so we can see how they look together.

The group of three Stormsmiths are coming along nicely - a few metal details, arcane glow on their sticks & goggles, and the white on their shoulder pads and bracers to go...

For eyes, I have sometimes used a micro-pen to dot the iris.

The Chaplains are interesting. Do they really have an ability in-game to turn Nazi zombies?

They've got the Monster Hunter rule, as I recall, which makes them more effective against supernatural beings (such as Zombies, Werewolves and Vampires) in close combat.

Speaking of which, I should probably do some work on Count Otto von Magpyr, so they have someone to victimise

And Count Otto von Magpyr - also known as the Warlord Games SS Vamphyr - is now complete. Randomly, this means I now have more points of Germans painted than I do British.

For those of you wondering if I'm falling behind, I do have 4 Privateer Press models I've finished that I need to post. However, as I'm running A Tale of Warmahordes 2012 on the Privateer forums, I won't be posting finished models on here until Monday, when the first completed models thread goes live.

In other news, I've also finished the first part of my review of the new PP Mercenary Heavy Warjack kit, and posted it on my blog - I'll be pulling part 2 together once I've got the Rocinante upgrade kit.

Now I need to decide what to work on next - Organ Gun crewmen, Forge Father Huscarl, Hasslefree Grymn or the Hasslefree martial artist I want to paint as an ise zumi from Legend of the Five Rings...

Nice old skool vampire, I like the pallid flesh it has nice contrast to the rest of the fig especially to the dark uniform.

The flesh was surprisingly easy - basecoat with P3 Frostbite (a very pale blue/grey), wash with Leviathan Purple, highlight with Frostbite...

Thanks for the recipe Dysartes.

The washes on top of light base coat seems to be the way to go with undead flesh. I have tried only with bone/ ivory base coats, I'll have to give light blue a shot too.

I agree! The Stonecleaver combines a great mini with a super paint job!

Aha so this is where you've been hiding out! Baldur the stonecleaver is my fav. That second battle chaplain is amusingly different - I can imagine him saying "Get back you foul fiend!" and waving his cross at people.

Such a wider variety of minis here.

Eyes are a b****. Sometimes with minis that have very small eyes I just try and 'suggest' pupils and stuff. The hard part once you have a small enough brush is not making them look cross eyed.

Thanks weety - I do like Major Terntadust a little more than the standard Battle Chaplain, if only for the fact that he has the sense to carry a gun on a WWII battlefield. Maybe they're different branches of the Church...

Anyway, time for a completed figure update - the Organ Gun crew are still failing to inspire me enough to complete them, but I have had a good output of Warmachine & Hordes figures this month. As the February Completed Models thread for the Tale of Warmahordes doesn't go live till Monday, though, you'll be waiting a little while for the six (or possibly seven) figures I've got ready for you.

In the mean time, I did manage to complete one of the Iron Kingdoms Roleplaying Game figures yesterday - Valera Alvaro, Ordic Pistoleer. She's one of my favourite sculpts from the line, and I keep hoping they'll produce rules for her as a Mercenary in Warmachine. Anyway, without further ado...

She's great and sexy! I think a bit more variation in the tones of her leather outfit would give the mini more depth but I'm flicking pickles since I have no idea how to do those tones.

Very nice, good goggles, and with this figure I think you made the right decision to not paint the eyes, the shadowed look suits her. I'd have maybe gone with a slightly different tone for the stitching on the legs, or maybe the red, but it's all gravy

I think Ragman is my personal favourite from this batch.
