In the BT codex there is an image of bolter, wrapped in chains and with a crusader seals, much like the model itself. It also has a bayonet, which does not appear on the model.

I was considering adding bayonets to all my bolter guys.

While I'm not sure if it is actually a good idea, I'm also not sure if the bolter with a bayonet counts as a different weapon (in terms of gameplay and WYSIWYG; I'm new to this so I don't really know).

What do you guys think?

Bayonets on Bolters look pretty cool. I would say go for it.

If you like it do it. It may not count as anything, but you can do it. Almost all my marines have bayonets or chain bayonets........but that is because most of them are RTB01 and they all came with those accessories.

I have converted all my chaos maries' bolters with bayonets, and i think it looks darn cool. as far as WYSIWIG goes, as there is no option for bayonets in any codex, i would assume that it will be taken for a purely cosmetic effect, and therefor not disrupt WYSIWIG.
Now, what i did was cutting the little tap of plastic just below the barrel off, then cutting off the handles to combat knifes, and easy as that, you got yourself some nice looking bayonets for your bolters.

Don't all Marines in all Codices come with a "close combat weapon" in their wargear? Just say that the bayonet is the close combat weapon.

To me, the spirit of wysiwig is that everything you are using rules for is on the model. Having some extra fluffiness shouldn't matter, especially if its not a rocket launcher or somethin.

Okay, thanks everyone, I've decided to do it. After that, they'll need priming and then I can start painting.

That was what I was going to do. I also have a plasma gun guy, who I'm seeing if I can get a bayonet attached.

Just don't ruin the plasma gun with the bayonet. all types of bolters can have bayonets not anything else as imho it looks a bit weird and stuff.

I actually think it looks alright; I used a different blade though. This is actually the blade that the Scouts/Neophytes use, and this one got snapped off and refused to glue back on, so now I'm using it as a bayonet.

That is hilarious. I never would have thought of that! It's like putting a bayonet at the end of a lasconnon. I'm gonna put a giant one at the tip of my leman russ now!

Funny thing is it actually looks kind of bad ass, it would just be impractical as hell.

I think I figured out a way to make a double bladed axe. Now where are my plastic rods...
