So I am blatantly trying to copy Eggroll's shading for my Blood Angels. Now I know this stuff is nowhere near what his are in terms of quality but hey my excuse is its my first time using an airbrush What do you guys think I need to improve? I am kind of all over the place so any advice is much appreciated. Oh and sorry for the one thousandth BA/Airbrush question this week.

You are going about it backwards, you should be going from dark undercoat to light, not the other way around... you will lose all the accuracy of the lighting too...

Eggroll does not always use pure zenithal, but he does employ it as one of his tools. Check out the GK tutorial in my sig to get an idea of the color order you should be using.

Shading is possible, but it should only be touch ups later on. The easiest, and really only way, to get nice shading overall is to start with all dark and then add light.

Thank you for the data. I have been looking at that tutorial and I was trying it but you are right I think it would be a lot easier if I was doing it from dark to light. I will have to base one black and go the other way and see how it turns out thanks for the help.

I would also take a look at how Les from awesomepaintjob.com does his airbrush work if you have not already. This might help you as well.

Range of color is good, as are the gradients, they just don't hit the right spots. It's obvious, at least, that you're spraying your paint properly. Zenithal technique would give you a solid estimation of where the light should fall, even if you decide to play around with it, afterward.

Basically, listen to MajorTom. I can't imagine him steering you wrong.
