Okay, I don't game anymore, too many reasons. Long story short, the two stores that were homes to many gamers here are long gone and the one left has limited stock on hand so everything is special order.

That said, I still build or at least restarted to build as WH40K and like models and minis offer modeling opportunities that "normal" and traditional model lines lack. I spent the last three months working on this diorama. The base was a milled piece of wood from Michael's and the ground work is styrofoam banks covered in Spackle paste, painted with cheap acrylics. Ground cover is trees and various shades and grades from Woodland Scenics as is the water. The water is several thin pours, layered up so the waters "depth" is easily controlled.

Figures were GW Catachan legs, arms and torsos. Heads were from Maxmini, the mini with the beret has a Maxmini combat torso as well. Backpacks were a mix of Maxmini and Secret Weapon. Painting was done with a mix of Vallejo, Floquil Acrylic Railroad paints and cheap craft paints. Washes were Vallejo and Citidal. Weapons were modified with scopes and aiming devices, a couple of the guns had the barrels cut down to a carbine length. Nothing major just what looked good to me.

I was only able to get two decent shots, I'll try later if I can get the Macro to work.

Very cool! Reminded of Forrest Gump right off the bat, of course! Better shots would be cool too.
Would be cool if you slipped in a few models hiding in the trees. Ymgarl genestealers? I like.
Love your location Whereabouts in CA are ye?

Thats very cool piece. It reminds of a scene you would see in a movie. More like the movie was based off this scene

Thanks for the comments,

As for the still waters, I may go back with Woodland Scenics "Water Effects" and add some ripples around the ankles.

The scene was from my imagination but based on stories from my time in HAL-5 / HCS-5. I heard a lot of "Sea Stories" while on Dets form the guys that were in Viet Nam. One of them was a SEAL and a couple others were HA(L)-3 Seawolves. All I did was take those stories to a near future setting. As always, no matter how hi tech a military goes the only thing that matters is the guys on the ground.

As to adding a couple of critters, that was in my original plan but as this progressed I figured that a lurking beastie would be superfluous, a little sometimes can say quite a lot.

As to my location in the Peoples Republic, I live in Bakersfield, home to pitbulls, methheads and incompetent urban planning.

lol well here in Fresno I enjoy grocery shopping, checking out and spending $50 on milk, eggs, bread, cheese and other produce while the people in front of me, donning pajama bottoms, that can't speak English, get a couple full baskets ladened with goodies for $17.61.

That is an extremely good diorama, may I ask how you made the trees? Did you buy an armature or make them from scratch?

The trees are from Woodland Scenics, they are sold in a bag with the armatures and foliage. The armatures ship flat so you have to twist the trunk and limbs into position. A little paint and dry brushing makes the armatures look better.

Thanks for all the comments and compliments.
