Hi all

So a couple of days ago I was playing apoclypse. And one of my opponets told me I couldn't combat squad out of a drop pod according to the FAQ. So just to keep the game going i let it pass. Later I looked it up and here is what the FAQ states:

Q: Can you take a Drop Pod with a 10-man squad and
then put a combat squad in it, deploying the other
combat squad on the table, or leave it in reserve but
not in the Drop Pod? (p69)
A: No, because squads that are placed in reserve may
not break down into combat squads.

So as far as I can tell you can't combat squad while in reserve but you can when you first deploy the pod according to the codex.

just wanted to see what you all think.

thanks

Yes, the FaQ is correct. It refers to splitting a combat squad in half then deploying half and keeping half in reserve, which is not allowed.

you can combat squad when you deploy the unit, so if you arrive from DS you can then combat squad.

Whatever opponent told you that you could not combat squad out of a drop pod was incorrect.

I always belived he was correct however I have just realised. On pg.23 of the Blood Angels codex it states. "The one exception to this is a unit that arrives by drop pod-the player can choose to split such a unit into combat squads when it dismebarks."

So yes you can combat squad them when they arrive via the drop pod.

That FAQ could have been worded better; it does seem that you are correct though.

I've have so many opponents question me on this (that UM army in my sig, that's only lost twice, lots o' drop pods in that one)... Reaper's got it. You are required to deploy the full squad in DP... only after you've placed the pod can you combat squad, and both combat squads come out of the same pod (and there are some really fun/annoying games you can play with that ability)
