Hey all,

I'm trying to figure out a way to convert/model some Necron Warriors into looking more... well, undead. My painting and weathering techniques for them are pretty solid, but I'm getting really tired of looking at Necron Warriors who look like they just climbed off of a saddle from a long horse ride. I have modeling tools and a dremel at my disposal, but I just can't figure out where to start other than looking at pictures of zombies lurching around. Obviously the legs will need the most work, but I'd like to work with the arms, too; perhaps one arm dragging the Gauss Flayer and the other just limp at the side. Luckily, you can already get a wide-range of motions with torso.

Anyone have any experience with this or any advice?

Yeah, something like this.

One thing you an do is use the new Necron kits: you'll find the legs useful since they're different from the usual wide stance of the Necron warrior. The Lychguard kit has walking legs and some of the legs on the Immortal/Deathmark kit has, too.

Another thing you can do is turn to the undead side of things full throttle: mix them with zombie and skeleton kits! I don't know if it'll fly with regards to fluff but hey, rule of cool. Think of what you can do with a bit of greenstuff and these kits mixed with the Necron ones:

A fluff abomination. ^^

OP: The first thing you would need to do is make the legs straight.

Also you could try putting the necrons at dodgy angles and on one foot an the such like they are having a hard time staying upright. I don't know how easy that would be or whether it would even work, but you could play around with that.

After that you could straighten the arms and make it so they are only holding their guns with one hand.

The main problem with trying to make them look zombie-like is that they might not look like they are actually holding weapons that work. It is hard to get a zombie to look like he is firing a gun, it just looks odd.

This:

For some reason made me think of a bunch of Necrons made up as Glaswegian drunks, Rab C. Nesbit style.

What does the Exalted option do? No bloody idea but it sounds good.

That was one of my worries.

I am tempted to model a flayer with a bottle of Buckfast and name him

Rab C. Nesbot.

Hey, I tried this last night before I went to bed. I'll try to get a picture up during my lunch break. I think it turned out reasonably decent for about 5 minutes worth of work. Just involved a lot of cutting and re-gluing.

Here's my first attempt. About 5 minutes or so of cutting and gluing. Still needs to be painted, obviously. Thoughts?

That is a sight better than their usual "please kick me in my shiny gonads" pose.

I occasionally scroll through a forum first just to catch the pics.. I happened to do so this time, so I saw zombies, and then your necron.. and my first thought was.. "oh! zombie necrons, I get it!".

In light of that, I would say youre clearly headed in the right direction.

I did a few hulking zombie necrons for my room mate, and they turned out pretty freaking well I must say. Unfortunately, they were stomped in the course of our house getting robbed :(

What I'd recommend is to REALLY run with the zombie thing. You dont have to make em smelly, but theres always that zombie with the backwards leg, or his head cocked sideways..

In this case, GUITAR wire and paperclip-sized rods and the like are your friend. You could have one whose head has been knocked back till the top of his head is flush with his back-- guitar wire running to the skull, and a few smaller gagues of wire torn and pointing straight up could be pretty freakin greasy dude.

Legs can be repositioned in all kinds of ways if you crop the "bar/rod" parts of the legs and replace them with your own, at your own preferred angle... and guitar wire WILL brace them enough to be relatively sturdy, trust!

Maybe their crypt partially collapsed during their slumber, and they awoke slightly disfunctional, largely disfigured, and therefore quite pissed off! who knows. Im subscribed tho, regardless! Good Luck!

Working with the only materials I had on hand (wire was a great idea, alas I had none to work with), this is what I've come up with so far. Like always, your thoughts are welcome.

Destroyed arms? I'm sure I'll catch flak for this.

I let my friend cut up their heads with a knife and clippers.

looking good so far. Not too fond of the one with his hands fallen off but they look loads better than the normal, sumo wrestler kind of, I'm s******g in the bushes look.

I plus one to guitar wire. I have made some monstrous things with that stuff in the past.

Heres a concept for wraiths. With a bit of re-positioning and the like, he could look rather shambly.

Maybe make the arm dangle at the end of the one with the destroyed arms?
