I wish those Fimirs were smaller so they'd fit on a 25mm square base. I want to remake my Hero Quest with updated models, and Fimirs and the Gargoyle are the only drastic thing missing.

I stopped getting FW's newsletters when they decided to give us 'teasers' and jigsaw puzzels as if it were some sort of privlage to look at their ads.
So anyway, actual images:

I like the Fimir, they do seem a bit on the large side but WHFB is now a game of many sized bases and I think the Fimir fit in the MI slot well. I like the wolfrats but I think Skaven are getting too many new bits and not enough remakes of some of the duff old bits like the naff plastic rat ogres. I know that's GW's domain but even as an old school skaven player it's getting boring now. I'd rather see some FW love for the 8th edition army books. I'd love a sqiggoth for fantasy and a new bigger bone giant and i'd like to see some mad beast of burden for the gnoblars.

It's building hype. Not bad at all. At least Forge World previews it stuff like that rather than releasing it like GW proper with no fanfare. At least Forge World doesn't charge you the price of an expensive catalogue for the privilege of looking at its advertisements.

I despise the resin "base" under the wolfrats feet. The Rhinox had this two and I have to file it all away without destroying the base if I want to use the model at all.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious but wouldn't it just be easier to, once glued to the base, feather some green stuff from the resin to the plastic to obscure it ? Whatever base treatment you follow-up with would just further obscure the resin pads below the feet ...

The original Fimir (non-Heroquest anyway) were ogre-sized. Apparently that was a mistake by the sculptor (Colin Dixon?). The Fimir were supposed to be GW's "unique"race a la the Broo, back when GW was making models and scenarios for other people's games. The story I heard was that the sculptor was given descriptions or sketches of the models but no scale... But it was too late to resculpt them. That also fits well into the old Fimir Army rules where their stats werent really "ogre-class".

Today GW released the Vargheist/Crypt Horror kit. Three plastic figs for $47.
Today Forgeworld released the Fimir set. Three resin figs for ~$45.
Forgeworld resin is now cheaper than GW plastic.

Ouch, 75 points a fimir? They do have quite a bit of rules I suppose.
Even then though there are rule inconsistencies. They have a +5 scaly save with heavy armor and yet it says combined only for a +4 save

A set of Minotaurs or of River Trolls is £27.70, the FW Fimir are £28, Crypt Horrors or Vargheists are £29 The Fimir actually look less cartoon-ish and more serious than any of the other three kits, and are gorgeous sculpts, the rules aren't great, but their still being worked on. The Wolf Rats are cool, anyone else thinking Rough Riders in a Necromunda Ratskin based IG army? Now the next things I'm hoping for are some new Ogre Monsters (so much potential) and a Squiggoth and that Giant Squig. It's actually my plan to convert the current Squiggoth for my orcs, it's such a gorgeous model. But most of all I want huge Lizardman Dinosaurs

If you are dealing with a flat, featureless base like GW sells, then it can be done. If you are using 3rd party "textured" bases then it becomes a major source of irritation.

Cool models but basically unusable at 75pts per model. Varghouls are like 36 for S4, T5 and a 5+ regen.. These are S4 T5 for double?? I guess great weapons are worth 30 pts a model

I've always loved the fimir and was glad to see them return in Storm of Magic.
I think i might get a few of these and proxy them as Chaos Ogres in my Warriors of Chaos army. Not a big fan of the current models.

For completeness, here the text of the newsletter:
Warhammer Forge Newsletter # 20 wrote:Hi there,
We have two fantastic new releases in this week’s newsletter, both taken from the pages of our forthcoming Monstrous Arcanum book!
Fimir Warriors
Once, when all the world was fog-shrouded and dark, legend has it that the dreaded Fimir once ruled, tearing down the cities of the High Elves and struggling in bloody conflict against the wild and brutish forebears of Sigmar. For centuries they roared the praises of the Dark Gods over blood-splattered altars, then the world changed and their gods left them to suffer a slow and lingering decay.
Cold-hearted, cruel and mightier than any man, the Fimir are said to possess but a single baleful eye atop a pointed snout bristling with jagged fangs. Larger and more ferocious than the sorcerous Draichs, Fimir Warriors boast tails tipped with bony clubs and yellow-grey flesh that is all but immune to pain.
The Fimir Warriors set comprises three detailed resin models, sculpted by Steven Whitehead, with three different poses and heads as well as three different types of weapons. It is available to pre-order now for despatch from 27th January. We also have a set of downloadable experimental rules for these dread creatures, taken from the forthcoming Monstrous Arcanum book.
Skaven Wolf Rats
Not even the insidious rat-men themselves know the origins of the ravenous packs of Wolf Rats that are found almost everywhere that the Skaven themselves infest. Neither wholly rat or wholly wolf, but instead an aberrant and savage amalgamation of the two, Skaven Wolf Rats are kept by the rat-men for a myriad of uses; for guarding their lairs, as hunting beasts, and occasionally even as food. In battle packs of these hellish creatures will be unleashed ahead of Skaven troops, for unlike the cowardly rat-men the Wolf Rats are fearless shock troops, eager to feast upon the flesh of those who face their ferocious assault.
The Skaven Wolf Rats set, designed by Keith Robertson, contains a unit of five highly detailed resin Wolf Rats and is available to order now for despatch in the week commencing 27th January. With three different bodies and five different heads in the set, the Wolf Rats can be assembled in a variety of combinations, and experimental rules for them are available to download now, taken from the forthcoming Monstrous Arcanum Warhammer Forge expansion book.
Warhammer Forge Future Releases
Warhammer Forge is now one year old and we’ve got plenty of fantastic models lined up for release over the coming months. Because we know how much you love sneak previews, here’s two for you to ponder over:
The first is something that Edgar Skomorowski has recently completed, while the second was briefly ‘relocated’ from Keith Robertson’s desk. As to what they are - a good way of finding out will be to join us at the Forge World Open Day on Sunday 1st April here at Warhammer World in Nottingham. More details will be added as we get closer to the date, but we can now announce that entry to the Open Day will be free once again.

What faction do the Fimir represent?
If they are coming out in the Arcanum, does that mean anyone?
Were they ever aligned with anyone specific, Chaos?

As far as I can remember, Fimir are half deamons.
They raided lands in the north of the old world and took human women as breeding stock.
Being daemony and in the north they could align easily with chaos.
The old Heroquest board game by MB/GW had them lumped in with the greenskins. Though I suspect this was only becasue they shared a sprue.

Yes, they are...
And Ratius - they were a Chaos faction and that seems to be continued into the fluff text in the newsletter... but presumably if it's a Storm of Magic thing then anyone can use them.
Kid_Kyoto - where do you get the impression that they think it's a privelige? Reading that newsletter has them saying 'we know you love previews so here's a preview'...?

with the wolves a quick question... it says in the experimental rules the you get +1 impact hit for each point of rank - now dose that mean if you had 4 ranks you'd get 4 impact hits or the amount of impact hits that all those ranks points added up to?

While I agree their price doesn't really make sense they do have a few other things going on that mitigate the price difference... They have tail strike (S5); they have 4+ armor; swampstriders, ambushers, and cold blooded. While I realize it doesn't count for 40pts... it counts for something.
The other thing to keep in mind is these are preliminary rules and could end up changing before the books release.
