Hi,

Purchased some of this during the week......

I primed a blood angels drop pod in this earlier today using my airbrush. It looked nice and I left it to dry.

I was packing the item away and I noticed the primer is just rubbing off. I have since painted a section of another model in this "primer" and it just rubs off.

I alway de-grease before painting and I am at a loss as to why the primer wont stick.

An internet search yields other people who have had this problem. is it me? Or am i Missing something? Does it have a 1 day + cure time? Or do I need a new primer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Adam

It could be drying before it hits the mini? What pressure and what distance are you spraying at?

I am spraying about 4 to 6 inches away. I cant adjust the pressure because I have a fixed compressor.

My setup is below:

http://www.air-craft.net/acatalog/Harder-_amp_Steenbeck-Airbrush-Starter-Set.html

I thought it might be down to airbrush however I painted (with brush) another plastic model and left it to dry for a few hours and it also just "comes away" the same as the drop-pod. Therefore this brushed on approach leads me to think it isn't "air-brush related".

I am tempted to try another primer, although I am very surprised because the Vallejo Primer seems very popular.

I am at a loss really...thanks for responding....any more thoughts?

Hmm, thats the only thing i could think of really. I use the same stuff through an airbrush and it sticks to metal like glue.

I guess it might have been sitting on a shelf somewhere for ages? You could try taking the lid right off and giving it a really good stir.

Yer, I will....i have set up a couple of overnight test models to see if it needs a substantial curing time. If not then I will see if I can get a replacement sent to me asap.

Thanks for your help man

If you have no luck I can only really think its either a bad batch, or its got too hot or cold at some point in its life.

Good luck with it, its a good primer when it works!

Yer I thought as much. I just tested everything I had painted again and it all just comes off upon contact. I have dropped a mail to the supplier...hopefully I will get another or might give Alclad a go.....although I just read that the primer has a 3 day cure period on plastic???

I can only find mentions of things like "quick drying time" worth seeing if it hardens up over the next couple of days, but that seems like a very long long time!

24 Hours later and it's hard as nails...I cant scrape the stuff off any more lol. Seems it just takes a while to dry properly :-)

Good to know. I had similar issues and just chalked it up to airbrush primer not being as good as aerosol primer, something I had heard claimed before. I'll have to try letting one cure overnight.

Yeah it's just the time it take to fully cure. I always leave overnight and it's rock-hard the next day.

I will have to start leaving it longer, I've only used it on metal so far and it seemed to dry pretty quickly.

Yer it's nice to see a good end to this thread....now to spend some time removing the primer from the drop-pod. Sweet :-)
