Am I the only one who has a hero build that he writes down in the army list regularly then always ends up cutting before finishing the list?
My idea is this, a wood elf noble on elven steed with the Hunter's Talon (grants sniper) and a Pagent of Shrikes (sniper spite of S4). I would put him in a unit of fast cav, try to snipe a caster or BSB and then flee.
BUT everytime I make my lists, he gets cut. So apparently I like the idea, but he just doesn't seem to make the cut. He's the guy on the bench yelling at me "put me in coach! I can do it".
So Fantasy players of Dakka, do you have a guy like this in the back of your head? Would love to read about it.

I often start writing down "Tomb Herald" on the army list, but rarely even get to his magic items before he's cut from the list...
One particular idea is a Herald on horse, equipped with Fencer's Blades and leading a unit of Horsemen in the flank. Decent amount of KB-attacks, but very little defense.

I don't know much about Tomb Kings, but that is a shame if an entire hero option is unplayable. Sounds like a design fail of the book.

Well.. The Herald is the only guy who can carry the BSB, so there are times when you have to fit him in.
It's Heralds without the Battle Standard that I struggle to find a use for.

Enigmatic Sorcerer of Chaos

I have this problem every once and a while when I make bigger lists for my WoC, but normally I don't go beyond what I personally think to be the minimum characters I need for 2500 (usually a Chaos Lord, BSB, and Sorcerer) so my list kind of goes around there.
My Orcs and Goblins have this problem though, though not with any specific build. I kind of just throw in 1 or 2 extra heroes but usually end up taking them out.

Yep. I keep building a Wargor with the Horn of the First Beast (lets me reroll primal fury in a 36" bubble), but I can't seem to find the points for him alongside my bray shamans and my BSB.
Every time I write him down I cross him off. Every time. Sigh...

In this edition, many characters struggle to justify their points. In many cases, a tooled-out character is as expensive as a full combat block (or at least a strong maneuver control unit) and of far less utility. A block can hold up an enemy advance for several turns; a charcter often runs, broken by static combat resolution. The Crown of Comand can help... but you can only have one. Putting him in a unit helps... but then once the unit gets cut down to 25% he's going to run off the board with the unit when it goes.
In general, I get a general, BSB, and enough casters to do the necessary magic for the list. Rarely do I go beyond that. If I need a combat monster, it usually winds up being the general.
Brets are an exception. They tend to live and die by their characters. In larger games a Beast Prophetess and 5 naked Paladins (BSB and General go elsewhere) can really tear stuff up.

It appears that no matter how much I want, my Vampire Lord is going to be cut from tournie lists as it's just too many eggs in one basket. Necro lords are too cheap not to run.
And there is no justification for a Vampire caster lord.
