Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman

Hi Everybody!
I have recently returned to war gaming after a few years and have started an imperial guard army! I used to play Space Marines (vanilla) but could never get the hang of them. However, I caught the gaming bug again and the proud owner of a growing infantry horde as well as a healthy number of tanks! I go to my local Games Workshop and chat with the staff there and others who hang out there (from that I managed to glean advice and help regarding how to start with guard) and now go when I can to the games night. I would describe myself as a casual player because I never was very good at the game but love the literature and models and so enjoy the game and guard for me are a very cool as the idea of thousands of guardsmen charging and tanks blazing are pretty awesome. Anyhow, I thought I would become a member as I would appreciate advice on a couple of army lists based on what I have and just to chat with fellow enthusiasts.
