Hello dakka!
Recently I've been reading Titanicus by Dan Abnett and have completely fallen in love with the mechanicus.
So, me being the rather brave and noobish hobbyist I am, I have decided to take on the challenge of recreating legio Invictus on the table top.#
To do this I will be creating 2 warlord titans, a host of skitari...and then I shall be attempting to create some of the main characters from the book.
The only problems I'm having are finding warlord titan schematics and how to recreate legio invictus skitarii,
Any help would be appreciated, especially from anyone who has recreated legio invictus before, created skitarii or warlord titans or has even just read the book and has ideas.
Once again thanks to any and all who help in advance,
LazzurusMan

I don't know that there are any warlord schematics. You'll likely have to make your own.

This site has some Warhound plans:

I think you may have to make the warlords up as you go along.
It may go without saying but we will want pics.

I know what you mean. I loved the novel and the idea of giant titans stomping around with skitarii doing battle underneath.
Personally I realised i'd never build a 40k titan as they would be far too big in actual scale for 40k. A warhound should really be 2 to three times the size of the forgeworld one compared to our figures. So instead I play Adeptus Titanicus with a metal warlord and resin FW warhounds. That only works because I have friends who also play this ancient game.
Honestly creating two 40k warlords will be a massive project. It's been tried before but never really captured what is described in the books ( IMHO). If you give it a go though, all power to you. I dont know of templates but i'd follow the proportions of the GW epic scale one.
In terms of skitarii, they are a very varied force. Some think of really high tech stormtroopers but that is only one form. There are many depending on the forge world. If I recall Dan Abnett describes this type as quite feral. Think Mad max but with superior technology. I can imagine conversions using catachans as a base but with hellguns, targeters etc. They also had ornate features like plumes and masks. I think the idea was to be as intimidating as possible. That would be a very different and not often done take on Skitarii.
I've gone for an ornate and clean look using vostroyans. I've done some of the conversions which I need to post on my blog. You may find some useful stuff there:

Thanks for the ideas and tips guys.
I Understand that this will be a very large project, and hopefully I'll be able to get a mate or two to assist. It goes without saying that this will be a very large project that will take me both my years at college to complete.
As for the skitarii, Dan did say that they were very feral looking creations, and very bulky, almost like space wolves.
Now...correct me if I'm wrong...but would using space wolves and meching them up work??
If not I suppose mixing SW and Catachan bits would work with a few mechanicus pieces
Thanks again guys, hopefully withing the next couple of weeks I should have pics up of some designs for the titans, and btw...feel free to pinch any of my ideas...there just aren't enough schematics for titans on the net, so if I come up with any, I might as well keep them on here for all to use

Guitar wire is you friend here, works great for pipes and the like. Also, old electronic products are handy, simply break them up and harvest the lovely little gubbinz inside to stick on to your troops.
I looked around for some Warlord templates, but the best I could find is this.
http://www.40konline.com/community/index.php?topic=180640.0
I imagine that old electrical parts will be very useful building the Warlord, and it looks like the guy that has made this one has used some hoover parts on it. (just skimmed through the pictures)
For the Skitarii these fellows may serve as inspiration:

EDIT: And I just remembered!
You might think about using these as a base for Skitarii conversions:

Unfortunately the Skitarii are going to need to look lot less mech than the rest of my army...I'll post a short quote from the book describing them.
"The Invicta Skitarii, a throwback to more savage times, were fearsome beasts, striped and extravagantly marked, their armour built for threat, their genes selected for bulk. Muscular arms gleamed in the odd light. Heavy boots thumped in marching unison. Weapon limbs snapped up to salute as one. Feather plumes, ivory ornaments, leopardskin capes, modified fangs. The skitarii roarted at the sky like predators, as fearsome and bestial as space wolves"
This to me suggests that they would be modelled better if I used space wolves mixed with lots of mechanicus bits to make them look less like space marines...or at least less like space wolves...what do you guys think?
And for the titan, I will most definitely be using influences from other forums and threads, but overall I want my titans to be slightly unique.

Knock yourself out on the fluff.
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Skitarii#.Tx2GYs2fhPA
From what I have read, Skitarii are quite a controversial topic. Some say they are just guard with a couple of augmentations, others mega death machines capable with going toe to toe with Astartes.
Probably most of what I have read has noted that Tech-Guard are basically just guard only slightly augmented and work for the Ad-Mech, although often have exceptional warbands that have things like mind links or mega heavy armour even more effective than mk7 and on par with artificer or Terminator.
Legio invictus are one of those exceptions. They had a large amount of gene enhanced warriors that were in fact feral and insane.
Right, to the PaM bit:
My advice, if you choose to accept any of it, is to avoid the space wolf box sets. Most of the parts are power armoured, short of the heads, the ad-mech not really having the legal access to mass power armour and only then from their unofficial influence with the techmarines, and there is so many resources that you can get heads from that have compatible other body parts. For a start, a few links.

Also if you want parts from any of these kits, for example, ork limbs, you could just get them off bits sites or ebay. I live for bits sites.
Whereas for the techno-parts. Guitar wire could make some brilliant steroid pumps or something of the like. Guitar wire is brilliant.
You can also get rather a few good mechanical ork arms from Kromlech. they might not look too out of place in the insane realm of the Ad-Mech.
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Kromlech-Bits-and-Minis?_rdc=1
And of course the always relevant necron limbs for conversions can make some pretty nice bits. Not too sure it would work eith the whole genetically engineered monster biz though.
Also you could think about the old mega servitor of the Praetorian.
A lot of controversy on that too. Their styles range from super tracked servitor to tech stormtroopers. So that could be fun.
So, Titans.
I did a bit of research on titans in the past, when I was building my great gargant, and the modern day resin equivalent to the warhound is about 33inch tall (going on the diagram in the Apoc rulebook), but the old armourcast reaver (normally considered out of scale these days) would scale it to be about 27inch (using Epic scale).
Good luck with building two Warlord, better you than me TBH. Can't wait to see them.
Hope I helped.
Have fun.

Right.
After a bit of brainstorming I have come up with these ideas:
1. My skitarii will be a mixture of parts from different kits. I was thinking of using the Chaos Warriors from fantasy? It doesn't quite look like power armour, but with a few conversoions and a bit of GS I can get it looking both mechanicusy and unique for every skitarii.
2. Now for the confusing bit of which codex I use. I was thinking guard...but then I realised that the skitarii are WAY too powerfull to be represented as guardmen. So I was thinking maybe SW...or maybe create my own by mixing bits from SW and IG?
Thanks again for all the help guys, will hopefully have some pics up of some concept art in a few days. Can't atm as I at my other half's until wednesday, but I will do after
I also have a pic of the book cover if that helps...but I think they are salamanders instead of skitarii :/

I like the second idea. Maybe scouts so they are somewhere between troopers and marines but then you don't get much in the way of gear choice.
IG vet squads give some variablility.
There is this unofficial codex:

I am very sorry to disapoint people, but Legio Invicta will not be created :(
Instead I have decided to take the easier route and create my own Titan Legion. Maybe once I have a bit more experience I shall re-create Legio Invicta, but for now it shall be Legio Aroura! Unless anyone can think of a better name.
That's all for now as the other half requires this rather odd thing called sleep :/
Until next time,

Just want to say that this project is still in the test stages.
I may or may not be building a mechanicus army, it depends on my funds.
This thread is NOT ongoing, I am mearly trying to obtain as much info as possible before I attempt to build a titan legion.
IF I do start the project I will opening a Blog here on dakka, so keep you eyes peeled for anything with my name on, as it may contain news about this, but will also contain news about other things.
Thanks all for helping so far, any more info would be very helpful

Actually, the current Warhound is in correct scale, assuming that a Space Marine in armour is roughly 2.4m tall. By advanced means of measuring (i.e. stacking Marines on top of eachother to compare to my Warhound) I've deducted that a Lucius Pattern Warhound Titan is, assuming that the Astartes is 2.4m tall in armour (without the base!), roughly equal to 12 Space Marines or 14.8m, which fits with the 14m " IRL" height of the Titan. So no, they're not supposed to be "2 to three times the size of a Forgeworld one".
