Greetings all. Half way through painting a smurf army, I though "You know, I don't really want to play smurfs", so I decided to make up my own chapter.

My gf and I both love the lore behind the Adeptus Mechanicus (and she's a steampunk head), so I thought I'd make a chapter based around that. I read on lexicanum that each chapter donates 5% of their gene seed each year to the Mechanicus for testing for corruption / making new chapters. My chapter is based around a Archmagos Explorator who secretly embezzled gene seed until he had enough to create his own "chapter", to scout the galaxy for lost STC technology, when his requests for a consignment of Marines failed due to most being tied up in war efforts and the Eye of Terror.

Red is the main colour, with brass like trimmings, and some parts steel / gun-metal coloured. My biggest concern is differentiating them from the rest of the red chapters, Blood Angels, Blood Ravens etc.

Bear in mind I know that this marine is not the cleanest paint job, and there is no shading / highlighting, it's literally just a prototype for the colour scheme to see how it would work out.

Any ideas how I could make them more Adeptus Mechanicy and less Blood Angely, besides green stuffing? Oh, and I know the neon green is terrible. I just wanted to try out a new paint.

Dark Gold and red always look good together. I like it. What paint is that gold? The one I currently use was discontinued so when it runs out I'll need a replacement.

Well it's supposed to be brass really. On the plasma gun, it's a basecoat of a flesh colour, with a bit of burnished gold lightly brushed on, with a few washes of devlan mud.

On the skulls / shoulder trim, it's Vallejos Brassy Brass with a wash of devlan mud.

As for the cogs, I do have an airbrush, so creating a template and spraying it on wouldn't be too much of an issue.

I agree with JohnnoM, on both the green and cogs, you could try adding a second colour as well, maybe use some bits from the Iron Hands Space Marine Squad Kit off GWs site to personalise them up

I really like what you're trying to do with the whole Admech theme, and I have some insight on this topic, as I've seen a lot of the "Admech Marine" theme. Go onto Warseer, and in the Imperium section, look up Red Knights of Mars, I actually helped the guy out with some character backround under the guise of brother alexos.

Later on I'll post some links that might interest you if you like converting your own vehicles.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

The green looks good. Try buying some bionics from 3rd party people, some Iron Hands boxes, custom shoulder pads, etc.

For my Techmarine colors I go for a similar steampunk-type color scheme. The armor is Mechrite red and the brass mechanisms/weapons are Shining Gold, both with a wash of Gryphonne Sepia. Also +1 to using the Iron Hands bits.
