Ok so this is how it is I play so much 40k its incredible. I have a 3560 Point Ork Army, a 4000(ish) IG Army and I've lost count of my Nids. So i hit the books and am wanting to create my own wargame with the character card system as well as miniatures that Warmachine uses but this is where i'm stuck.

I know i want the game to be called "Genesis" as in the Fluff the "Genesis Program" was a series of operations and training excersises the EDN (Earth Defence Network) put in place to make a form of "Super" Human to go out into the universe and discover a new means of Habitable Planetry System. On the way into the universe the PISP's (Personal Intersteller Security Pods) the "Genesis Soldiers" were housed in were hit hard by a darkened energy frying half of the fifty Soldiers leaving them a pile of goop in their PISP's.

This leads on to lots of bad guys and bad guys who claim to be good guys but are really bad guys and so on and so forth. The part i'm stuck on is that I want it to be a game with lots of units and all out wars, but I want the leaders and Genesis Soldiers to play a larger part then they have in any other miniature wargame to date. So i dont know if i want the game to be more leader models and only a few soldiers and make it leader based with their effects helping spesific units in the army or do i want to make it kind of leader based but heavily infantry and tank based much like Games-Workshops games.

This is where you as a community of wargamers come into it. What would you want to play? are you happy with games like 40k? or do you want lots of leaders and fewer infantry and tanks? please input all comments are welcome and hopefully we will see Genesis on tabletops soon.

A skirmish style game that can use existing figures might not be a bad idea.

First place to start with is maybe a rules and technique of how the game is supposed to play. Overly involved or overly elaborate is going to turn people off to the game. Second is a good batch of minis, or a way to use existing minis in the game and the backstory.

With as many minis as there are out there, rules sets are at a premium. A good story helps, but the rules set needs to be built with breaking them in mind. What works, what doesn't, etc.etc.etc....

Good set I know about is one used with Golgo Island. The Warengine rules set is one that you can point at as an example of what works. Mongoose, as much as they sucked, had a 110% great game in Starship troopers, and that rules set can be used as an example of what works. Easy to play, easy to learn, can be used in numerous settings....

Rules are a good place to start. Along the way the setting will come along. ( say using a setting like that old MMO Tabula Rasa, or Planetfall...) As the game progresses, your going to end up hateing your creation....

Just a few thoughts.....

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

You might want to look at the way in which Too Fat Lardies rules handle leaders and leadership. The principles of which could easily be applied to 40k.
