The two armies that I am currently working on are my High Elves and my Skaven, so hopefully updates on these will be back and forth regularly.

My current project for my High Elves are some Great Eagle proxies. There's a blurb in the High Elf book under Archers that talks about Morai Heg, the Crone. She's the Goddess of Death and the Underworld. It says that the High Elves believe that she knows the fate of all and that everyone's death is foretold by her. Also Raven's are said to be her messengers. My mind started spinning after reading this and couldn't help but think up winged lance armed High Elves who worship the Crone and do her bidding.

Here's my first attempt. The head and arms are from an older plastic Silver Helms kit, not sure if it is the current one. The body wouldn't quite fit up with the older robed archer's legs that I wanted to use so I went with the body of a Chaos Space Marine. It was pretty bulky so I trimmed it down some with my knife until I was satisfied. The wings are from a wood elf warhawk. Tried to go with some kind of swooping dramatic pose. Still needs some green stuff work around the wings so that they flow smoothly and I have to fix the feet so that it doesn't look like he is standing in mid air, but I'm fairly pleased so far. Only 3 more to go. I want to have the option to field at least 4.

Quick update. I fixed the feet, added some iconography to the helmut, and gave him a shield. Icon and shield also came from the Silver Helms kit.

Yay update! Ok so I work in a sheet metal plant and I'm able to get my hands on some pretty cool scrap every now and then.Today I cut myself some 50mm bases for my Winged Knights and drilled a hole into the middle of 2 of them (one conceptual idea I have has one of them kneeling on the ground so no 3rd hole). I then had to drill into the legs of my Knight in order to be able to stick him on the flying base. And Ta Daaaaaa! I like how he looks although I'm a little concerned that the lance will get in the way of my opponent's rank and file. As for how I'm going to paint them, I'm not to sure. They are the Raven Knights so black is a must and I believe I'll do red and blue on the iconography as it will tie in to the rest of my army, but not so sure on the armor or lance. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Disaster and tragedy. I got home from work on friday and discovered my wife had accidentally broken my Winged Knight. So the time that I was going to spend painting was spent instead gluing him back onto his base, and a wing, and an arm. Broke at the worse bit too, snapping the tiny tab sticking into him off completely. It will definitely need to be reinforced with green stuff. Hopefully my next post will be much happier.

Pity. He was really cool looking too. Good luck with the repair.

Well I can't find my green stuff so I decided to paint the first Winged Knight anyway. This is what I've come up with. Can't seem to get a clear close up shot.

UPDATE! I need 4 of these guys before my tournament so shelf painting for now and work on modeling! Winged knight #2- the kneeling standard bearer. I wanted to sit him up on something but the fuzzy rock things that I have turned out to be styrofoam and will NOT glue to the base even with white glue. I searched through my collection of bits but can't seem to find anything decent for him to be sitting on. Oh well. My 3rd Knight will be armed with an axe, 2 handed if I can manage (bits from the Lion Chariot) the conversion and one handed if not. My 4th guy will actually impaling one of the tyranids from the Space Hulk game onto his spear. If it turns out well I might submit him to the painting challenge. I'm not the greatest painter, and I don't really aspire to be 'Eavy Metal quality but I like what I do and I guess that is what counts. Until next time...

Hey fuzzy rocks. They'll be cool for warhammer terrain. Wait they are made of styrofoam... not as cool

[Thumb - 100_4365.JPG]
I wish I could find something new for him to kneel on.

[Thumb - 100_4368.JPG]
He's kind of leaning too far back and it bugs me a little. Maybe I can reposition the arm.

Update!!! Took a quick break from my Winged Knights because I realized I needed ten Phoenix Guard for my tournament. Thought I was going to use my Maiden Guard models but could only find 3 of them .
So I came up with these guys in a few hours. Sawed in half a bunch of metal Dragon Princes and glues them to those awesome robed archer legs. Sadly though that means I am now out of those robed archer legs so I'm going to have to find different legs for my last 2 Winged Knights but I'm sure I'll figure something out. I've got lots of High Elf bits laying around but no halberds so I jumped online and ordered some. Should be here in a couple of days.

Looking pretty good there. Hope you can find those legs in time.

Update!

Got my 3rd Winged Knight put together. Messed around with my wife's camera a little too much so the pics aren't what I hoped they would be but whatever. For the legs of this one I used a Chaos Raptor from 40K. The pose seemed very "Superman" to me so I tried to model him accordingly. The arm with the axe came from the High Elf Lion Chariot, the body is from a Chaos Marine, and the arm, shield and head came from the Silver Helms box I've been using.

Also my halberds came in the mail so I was able to glue together one of my Phoenix guard to see how it would fit up. Not too bad, a few gaps to be filled but I like it. Hope you all do as well.

Alright so it's been quite a while since my last post. I had been frantically painting High Elves for a Tournament I was going to be in (1 loss and 2 draws, better than my last Tournament) and then I went to England (and didn't get a chance to stop at Warhammer World ) but now I'm back and ready to start gearing up for my next Tournament (realistically probably in 6-8 months )

So for now the High Elves will be shelved because I've already decided that for my next Tournament I will be running Skaven. While I don't have anything painted yet (except for a few models a friend painted before he traded them to me) I will be posting today the list that I will be working towards. Hopefully with a goal in mind I'll be able to focus and get some things painted without having to rush.

So for your viewing pleasure, here is Warlord Eeeeeeek the Unwilling and Clan Moldy Cheese fresh out of Lustria and ready to conquer.

Lords
Warlord: shield, Rat Ogre Bonebreaker, Fellblade

Heroes
Plague Priest: flail, Plague Furnace, Foul Pendent, Channeling Staff
Chieftan: BSB, Halberd, Armour of Destiny
Warlock Engineer: Doomrocket

Core
40 Clanrats: shields, full command, warpfire thrower
30 Slaves: musician
30 Stormvermin: full command
5 Giant Rats: Packmaster

Special
35 Plague Monks: full command, Plague Banner
5 Gutter Runners

Rare
HPA
Warp Lightning Cannon

I have no doubt that some changes will be made along the way but this is the first thing that got down on paper to get me motivated. Now on to painting!

Ok so my crappy camera notwithstanding, I had to try and take some pics of Warlord Eeeeeeek the Unwilling. The idea is that the Plague Priest gets him drunk before a battle and then chains him to the rat ogre who proceeds to use him as a weapon. Fluff-wise that's why I chose to give him the Fellblade, because when you are being swung into the enemy by a rat ogre, it's going to hurt them, but it's probably going to hurt you too.

The rat ogre is from the Screaming Bell kit. I don't quite know what to do for the base yet. I haven't attached his head or hand. Lord Eeeeeeek himself is the running man from the Giant kit, an old Skaven tail and head, and a hand and hood from the Empire Wizard kit. I've had this idea for quite some time and it was gratifying to see it finally come together somewhat.

Slaves! 50 of them. I didn't want to use any of my Clanrat models for slaves so I picked through some of the other misc bits I had and put together this unit. There's some Dwarves, Zombies, Skeletons, Skinks, a couple of giant rats for filler, and even a Ral Partha mini or 2. I'm going to experiment on this unit for paint jobs and basing. I went to the local giant craft store and bought some fake plants and moss to try and make jungle bases. Here's hoping they turn out ok. I promise I will paint some models soon. I'm just a bit of a glue junky and converter.
