Greetings

For the coming 1800-tournament, I have thought about this list. But Im not sure it works and what leaders I should have.

Master necromanser, 4th level, lore of vampires, lord of the dead
Master necromanser, 4th level, lore of death
Vampire knight, 2nd level, lore of vampires, quickblood, dread knight, ogre blade, armour, nightmare with barding

30 skeletons
30 ghouls

3 spirit host
2 sprit host
9 Black knights

Terrorgheis, infested
Black coach

Could this list work? or should I exchange my second master necromancer for two cairn wraiths?
The idea is to use heavy magic to build up my black coach. Block flankers and flyers with spirit host. Use the terrorgheist as a bomb, after shooting and close combat.

Any help?

I'd drop the second Necromancer, but getting one or two lvl1's is a popular scheme right now. The vampire seems very expensive; I think you could afford to save some points or drop him all together. 1800pts isn't much.

Not a big fan of Spirit Hosts or the Coach, but I think you got potential here.

Thanks Warpsolution

I agree about the necromancer. Not sure I want to change the vampire knight. A 2nd lev wizard can get back two "dead" knight each magic face. While the master necromanser focus on other stuff. But yes, he is expensive and might get killed by a characterkiller.
Would the list below be better?

Master necromanser, 4th level, lore of vampires, lord of the dead, Talisman of endurance
Vampire knight, 2nd level, lore of vampires, quickblood, dread knight, ogre blade, armour, nightmare with barding
Cairn Wraith

26 skeletons
30 ghouls

8 Hexwraiths
2 sprit host
9 Black knights, with flaming banner

Black coach

How are you positioning the necro and vampire? An issue I could see Is shooting at your necro and then your opponent trying to kill your vamp with static combat res.

Also the coach is ok but doesnt present the threat that some things like varghulf etc put into the opponents mind.

At low pts I prefer running 3 necros. 2 in bunkers and one with a cc. Granted thats a fire magnet but it does force them to choose what theyre shooting at plus then I dont run the risk of getting hesitant to run a vamp into cc because one necro died.

I still am unsure how to work in the wraiths due to the high number of daemon players with magic weapons. Theyre kinda expensive with limited damage output.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.

I'm curious as to why you specified that it was a Bretonnian VC army? From the look of it, it seems like you're running a necromancer list. There's nothing wrong with that, but I would've thought a Bretonnian army would have more Black Knights than just 9+vamp..? Also, I think your idea of using a spirit host to block flankers and flyers is a good one, but be wary of combat resolution. In fact, that applies to your whole army. You've taken hexwraiths, but no BSB? The VC is the one army in fantasy that I think requires a BSB. The character carrying the banner doesn't automatically die if the unit he's in is routed (because it can't be routed) and he lets all friendly units in range suffer one less wound from combat resolution. I'd consider a wight lord as a BSB and drop him in your black knights. I'm not sure a black coach at 1800 is such a good idea, though. It's a pricey unit for a moderately-sized game. Also, it can turn into an unstoppable engine of death, IF you roll well in your magic phase. Prior to that point, it's an undead chariot. That means if it gets charged, it's doubly-dead (if the combat doesn't kill it, the combat resolution will). Maybe drop the black coach for a corpse cart or three. They don't hit hard, but they can make other units around them hit hard. I honestly can't say how useful hexwraiths will be... I haven't used them myself, but they are fast cavalry (fragile) with average WS (3). Great weapons and ethereal help, but watch out for combat resolution! You don't want your necromancer spending all his time rebuilding this unit, and have him unable to focus spells elsewhere. Your infantry blocks look large enough to get the job done, so there's not much I can say there.

Caledonian 95th (undergoing regimental reorganization)
Thousands Sons (undergoing Warband re--- wait, are any of my 40K armies playable?)

Good points, thanks.

I tried my army agains Dark Elves yesterday.
I put the Necromancer in skellies, and vamp in black knights.
Then hold everything back to build up my black coach.
The enemy nearly sniped my Hexwraith in first turn with magic, but I got them back using Invocation with my Master necro.
In the end I won, thanks to my Necromancer raising a new uint of skeleons each round, and charging with ghouls, black coach and knights.

Master necromancer is great because +4 on spells. Im afraid of misscast and the +4 make me need less PD to cast spells.
Vampire knight is great togetter with black knights - hard to kill and charges hard. The vampire might need a wardsave because the Dark elf hero on pegasus is a character killer. He had 4 or 5+ save and 1+ ward save (something like that). But I broke him with combat res.
Spirit host and hexwraiths are fragile agains magic and combat res. But I find hexwraith to be a perfect Harpie-hunter.
Ghouls are great because of T4 and loads of attacks.
Black coach did great but ONLY if I roll 6es in magic phase.

About the Bretonnian VC-army I have to agree with squidhills. I want to make a Bretonnian army but are not sure how??? My spirit host are modelles like etheral questing knights (the eternal quest) and I use bret knights as black knights.

Any ideas how to make a bretonnian vampire army competative?

Thoughts for the coming tournament
Master necromancer
Vampire knight
Wight king knight with BSB
Skeleons (for the necromancer)
Ghouls
Black knights (9 with vampire)
Black knights (9 with wight)
Terrorgheist

Hey Astral!

I like the list a whole lot because it is just like the one I want to use.

I also enjoy the idea of a Wight with Black Knights for a machine of killing blow.

I do not see how the Terrorgheist will help though. I feel that it is just asking for cannon fire.

I would get more core and maybe some zombies for your necs to sit in an cast from.
