Many a moon ago (2006) I wanted to run an elite ork list. Back in those days you couldn't have meganobs as troops, but a retinue for a Warboss, which at the time you could only have one of.
I ran a proto-deffwing, with 2nd Ed. meganobs as
'ard boys (with power weapons for burnas), flash gits as troops (Bad Moon list from Chapter Approved) and my single meganob mob.
The 2nd Ed. models looked to me to be a little on the heavy side, not quite a 4+ save. A terrible idea was thus hatched.
Converting them up, I purchased a copy of the Daemon Hunters codex. Single wound 'nobs' were a bit naff though...
Anyway, two years later the current Ork Codex was released and I could stop mucking about with 'grey knights' and could take a 'true' DeffWing, with nothing but two wound, stompy, battle wagon-bound proppa orks. Even if the kustom jobs, upgrades and things meganobs could take were gone...
3 more years and the Dark Corners of My Mind spew forth a new desecration, for in this new incarnation I saw potential for a tooled up, over equiped, Bad Moonish, elite force of nob-like units allowed as troops by a Gazzy stat-lined nutter.
It whispers to me, and it's vile promises are hard to resist.
So, would this - given some self imposed restrictions - ever be OK, or would it forever be seen as shallow unjustifyable bandwagoning?
Restrictions I would set for myself:
No grenades - Just no, completely out of the question.
No Halberds - Just unfluffy. Probably go with Falchions for the same number of attacks as nobs.
Hammerhand only - No Force Weapon shenanegans. Probably no other powers either.
No Banner - See above.
No Apothecary - Don't care if you could try to pass him off as a Painboy in mega armour, not happening.
Land Raiders only - No Storm Ravens.
No Dreadknights, Dreadnoughts, Inquisitors/Henchmen, Power Armour, Librarians, Techmarines and the like.
Or shall I suck it up until the next codex (Ha!) and continue with my current army that despite what most people I play against think, is largely unviable?
