Hey guys

I recently decided to get back into 40k after about half a year without my own army, but I have no idea what to choose :/


I'm quite tempted to go with Tau and paint them in a more grimdark style...blood slatters etc.

But I then thought that it would be best if I asked you guys which would be best, and why...that way if I hate them I can blame someone else for my poor army choice

Being a Guard player I say the Guard, a battle box and thats your vets and HQ sorted, 3 chimmies, another sentie and 2 Russes. sort'ard.
Any thing eles you buy is gravy

Unfortunately I've played guard as my army twice before and got bored of them very quickly :/


Just to help any others with suggestions...I've played marines, orks, chaos and Grey knights already...so none of them unless I have to :/

Nids, Dark Elves...Eldar..... Squats?

I have been tempted with nids...and DE are my tohers halfs army...so they're a no...and eldar...well...meh :/

I generaly just don't like them...same as I never like High evles in WFB... weird that...

Crons? Whats not to like about slient killing mechs whos basic gun can take out a tank.
SoB, becouse nuns with guns need loving to. They pack a hell of alot of melta and flammer weapons. Very handy at a BBQ that.
Ad Mech, you'll have to use the IG codex with vets, but just think of all the cool stuff you could build as counts as.

SoB I wont touch until they are plastic. End of.

I'd rather use a "proper" Army if I'm honest :/ Something where I don't have to spend a stupid amount of time building and painting stuff that doesn't actually exist game wise.



My main Ides were either Tau...Chaos...Blood angels...Black tempars...Wolves...Dark angels...Nids...anything else I either forgot it's an army or don't like them :/

I'm with you on the SoB, plastic or not at all, that said I've got afair few lead, yes lead minnies in me gaurd

I like lead models, don't get me wrong...but an entire army of expensive metal mini's...no thanks

I'm tempted to play chaos as I've had them before...but never really learned how to use them well...or really had a painted and playable army...


Plus I still have my custom built chaos nurgle lord with deamon weapong in termie armour XD

There is no best army. There is only the army that you like the fluff, models, and slight preference of playstyle of.

You've really got to give us a lot more information about what you're looking for for us to help you.

Well I want an army that's rather easy to use...I play alot of friendly non-competitive games, but I'd also want a fighting chance in little things like tournies

What would you guys say about chaos?

I could get some chaos and BA bits and create a chaotic BA successor?

I would purchase space marine models and build my army just to be on the safe side when 6th Ed comes out in the early summer.

I hate marines :/

I'm thinking either Chaos for counts as BA...

Or more grimdark Tau force :/

I say you build a Tau army..... At least you will know that if you won the game you won it because your a good general and not because the codex was OP.

hey im new at 40k and got the black reach box set, which comes with orks and space marines. theyre both pretty sweet fluff wise but outta all armies which is the most fun to play with? ive play a total of 3 games which isnt much but wasnt exactly happy with either although both were fun painting. so basically what army do you guys use and why?

I got nids because they were cheap (points wise) and could direct a swarm.
I am still deploying.

if you hate painting like me then nurgle (chaos) is the way because it can be just washes over a white primer but i am considering a necron army because of the black primer silver dry brush and done side of it.
