Subject: Considering an Ork army in March but have some questions about just what armies Orks can make...

Hey guys,
I am thinking about starting a 1000-1500 point Ork army once my Chaos are built and my GKs are finished, probably around March.
I want to differentiate them, however, from playstyles I've either covered or don't interest me. I'm hoping generous Dakkaites will fill me in on what Ork forces can be deployed.
I do not want a horde, shooty or otherwise; my Guard are an infantry blob and cover this well enough.
I don't want short-range firefights.
I don't want to be a stompy assault army unless this is done with 'specialised' units
What do I want?
-A mechanised theme: I don't want anyone slogging it on foot if it's avoidable, as many tanks as possible, and possibly a few bikes (Perhaps the Warboss and his dudes?)
-'Specialist' units; I know Orks need troops, but I'd like to keep them to a minimum. I know nothing about Ork units or their 'dex, but if Nobs or Mega-armoured Nobs can make a heavy presence, that'd be awesome.
-I have no objection to Kans if they lend to a mechanised theme.
So I guess what I am asking is, is it possible to make an Ork army that's almost entirely mechanised, doesn't rely on lots of troops shooting at close range or otherwise, or a big mob of stompy guys running in? Can I have a smattering of armour, some bikes, kans and use Nobs in transports as hard-hitters? I guess I want a fairly 'elite' list as far as the boyz 'n' whatnot go.
I might be a bit harsh about the shooting I realise, I guess that, so long as the emphasis is on big guns and vehicles I don't mind if some troops have to resort to short-range firing (the boyz?) since, as far as I am aware, the Orks have no assault vehicles so I guess any 'assaulty' unit that gets out of a transport is just going to get shot the turn they disembark.
I also love grots.

The ork dex allows for very diversified army types much like the Guard dex.
If you take a warboss, you can take 1 nobs as troops.
If you take a big mek you can take 1 dreadnaught as troops.
most things have options to be put into trukks as dedicated transports
Some things have options to be put into battlewagons as dedicated transports
So if you wanted to have an "elite list" you could have say:
2 warbosses
2 units of nobs that count as troops, can be either in trukks or battlewagons(as their dedicated transport) can also bike mount them
Take a unit of Ard boyz (4+ armor save ork boys) and put them in a battlewagon.
Now you have a good core with 3 scoring units.
You can then take a couple squads of mega nobs and put them in trukks or battlewagons. Mega nobs much like terminators take up 2 slots in a transport. A trukk can hold 12 slots or 6 mega nobs.
Fast attack you can take bikes, deffkoptas, buggies, or trakks if you want to stay mechanized.
and for the remaning heavy support you could take Kans, looted wagons, or more battlewagons and put some elite units in them. Or more boys.
That said you can make an "elite" ork mob. Honestly you can do just about any build you can think of, Its just hard to get long range weapons out of troops or fast attack slots. Which of course almost all armies deal with.

Wazdakka can make bikes troops. That's one idea.

If you want Mek either go for a Battlewagon bash or a Trukk spam, both can be pretty damn effective.
With a Warboss you can make 1 unit of Nobz trops. Mega armor or otherwise.
With Wazzdakka you get Bikers for troops.
Orks have a very flexible codex.

I drew up a list last night, might post it in the list forum.
Essentially it's a Warboss on a Bike with two squads of boyz in trukks (Nob & Powerklaw on each), a unit of 7 Nobz in a trukk, a unit of 6 Nob Bikers with 2 Power Klaws and 2 Big Choppas, 7 Tankbustas, a looted wagon, a battlewagon and 3 Zzap Guns.
I didn't notice that Wazzdakka did that though, so I might revise the list... possibly drop the Nobz for more bikers I dunno. Bikers are a lot cooler (and less work) than units in Trukks
